The first generation Cadillac CTS has been enhanced and released as a second-generation 2008 Cadillac CTS. The new model car was unveiled at the Detroit auto show this year.
With the introduction of the 2008 Cadillac CTS, General Motors company has plans for competing in the entry-level sport sedan segment with the other tough competitors. This is evident from the fact that the 2008 Cadillac CTS, which is a midsize sedan, has been redesigned with a stylish and smooth external structure.
GM has also upped the power of the modern, electronic controlled engine under the hood. The interiors of the new 2008 Cadillac CTS are luxurious and plush.
The older 2.8 L V6 has been replaced with a proper 3.6L V6 which is more powerful. The standard version of the 2008 Cadillac CTS has the engine in last year's model with 258 horse power. However, the gear trains are new six-speed manual transmission. There is an option for integrating an advanced six-speed automatic transmission in place of the manual one.
The advanced version has a 3.6 LV6 engine which is a high power output design. This engine uses direct fuel injection so as to deliver 300 horse power and torque of around 270 pound-feet. The engine is a V6 with the performance features of a V8 to make the 2008 Cadillac CTS competitive in the market.
The manual and automatic transmissions will be available for the high power output engine with a third option being the four wheel drive. The 2008 Cadillac CTS four wheel drive is similar to the SRX platform, but uses an active transfer case to transfer power to the front wheels when the rear wheels lose their grip. The non four wheel drive 2008 Cadillac CTS will have standard rear wheel drive system.
Wider is better
The wheelbase remains the same while the car's length and height are both up an inch and a half. The new 2008 Cadillac CTS has been upgraded with 1.8 inches of track width in front and 2 inches in back to make it look wider and steadier.
The wheel suspension design consists of two aluminum upper and lower control arms for the front wheels and a multiple link design in rear with shocks absorbers at each of the corners.
Cadillac claims that new brakes and steering system have been fitted in the 2008 Cadillac CTS.
The standard wheels are 17 inch aluminum wheels with all weather 235/55 tires. There is also an option to go for 18 inch wheels with 235/50 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires.
A very luxurious and plus interior is the key modification in the 2008 CTS. A complete redesign of the interiors was done to give the CTS a fresh and elegant look. The dash board now supports large, ergonomic analog dials and also has a temperature gauge fitted.
With all these competitive features, General Motors expects that the new 2008 Cadillac CTS will be more appealing to buyers in the premium and midsize car segment. This sector is the most closely contested segment in America .
