2008 Dodge Magnum

Damiler Chrysler launched the redesigned Dodge Magnum earlier this year and from the external appearance alone you readily see some improvements to the older model.

There is a new grille and fascia, the hood looks more serious and aggressive and the aluminum wheels set off the whole effect very well.

The interior is still pretty much what you would expect though carbon fiber continues to creep into vehicle interiors as there is a drive to reduce weight.

Steering continues to be power adjusted with a carbon fiber steering wheel trimmed with leather and the usual full performance instrumentation with a 180 mph speedometer to match the tachometer and temperature displays.

The vehicle is powered by a 6.1 liter HEMI producing a huge 425 horsepower that drives the truck from o to 60 in just over 5 seconds and will take you to the 100 mph in less than 17 seconds.

A new feature for 2008 is the instant driver feedback delivered from the ReConfigurable Display (RCD) in the instrumentation panel which provides information on how optimal your driving is and projected fuel consumption, though with a 6.1 liter engine, you're not really going to be interested in economy. Transmission is through a 5 speed automatic with a driver selected auto or manual shifting.

The Dodge Magnum suspension has SRT dampers and suspension bushings married with anti-sway bars, and the whole chassis has been lowered a half inch for increased aerodynamic effect. There is also an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) that has been tuned specifically for the Magnum and it's performance handling. Braking is supplied by Brembo calipers providing a stopping distance of 110 feet at 60 mph.

The redesigned front exterior looks cleaner than the older model with chrome added and extra detailing on the front fog lights. An optional extra are chrome wheels and all season tires are also available to set off the new paint colors of light pebble and titanium.

Moving to the interior, the seating has been slightly upgraded around the arm rests and center console, while new LED lighting have also been added. The driver area has been redesigned and is more focused on the driver with clearer instrumentation.

For the safety conscious, the Dodge Magnum has an active and passive safety range complimenting the ESP together with assisted braking, ABS and traction control across the entire speed range. For passenger safety there are low risk deployment air bags, crumple zones, an energy absorbing steering column and head protection mounted in the cab together with rear and side airbags.

There are also a range of additional electronic features that have been added, including an iPod interface for the hands free cellular system, full GPS navigation using full map displays from the DVD. Entertainment features include SIRIUS radio system for no commercial listening together with a DVD system for rear passengers so you can keep the cries of “Are we there yet?” to a minimum.

Expect the 2008 Dodge Magnum at a dealer near you from late 2007 as production has already commenced.
