Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept

The much hyped Acura "Advanced Sports Car Concept" from Honda was unveiled in January 2007 at the North American International Auto Show. This animatedly fashioned concept provides a glimpse successor of Acura NSX which is out of production.

This new concept is aimed at taking the sports car design ideology in a radically different direction. The concept car has a V-10 front-mounted engine and a new high-performance, Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM).

The V-10 engine has taken to road following its withdrawal from Honda's Formula One circuits. Years of experience of Honda on the Formula One circuit with V.10 engine is evident from the power, performance and design of the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept.

To support the powerful V.10 and provide stability the car has a 108.8 inch wheelbase with low clearance to the ground. The car has shiny aluminum wheels, 19 inch diameter in the front and in the rear 20 inch diameter wheels.

The wheels are fitted with very high performance, grippy, high speed tires. Also important to note are the brakes which are very responsive, effective, air cooled carbon ceramic brake discs on all the wheels. The wheels augment to the overall fierce look of the car.

The Acura brand is designed to blend advanced technology with Honda's much acclaimed passion for high performance. This is evident from the fact that the exterior of the concept car reveals a vibrant blend of sophisticated technology and passion.

The extended, conic shaped, elevated hood has deep lines and the air vents are embedded in the grooves. The peripheral lines start at the front and run through the entire length of the car, looking like the numeral 8 viewed horizontally.

The new Advanced Sports Car Concept is a total redesign from the scratch but it still holds certain minor features of the older NSX. The car has sporty LED headlights similar to the older NSX but much wider and raised. The car has a completely black interior with a wrap around type of tail lights.

Being a high speed, exotic, sports model the aerodynamics styling is clearly evident at first look. The cabin compartment is low slung to reduce the height and even the door handles are flushed with the surface providing a clean and smooth aerodynamic feel.

The car's underbody is made of carbon fiber to reduce weight and provide safety. The exhaust from the powerful engines is let out in the rear through 4 huge exhaust pipes fitted with diffusers, clearly depicting the power of the car.

Honda expects that by introducing the Advanced Sports Car Concept with an exotic look and history tracking back to its much acclaimed NSX, the classic sports car from Honda which was put off the production line afew years ago, it will capture the appeal of the sports car enthusiasts and fanatics in the U.S markets.

Even though the Advance Sports Car is still in its native concept stage, further refinements and modifications to the car are still under way. The final production version might not have all the features of the concept car but surely have the looks and passion of the concept model.
