There’s just something about a BMW that needs no explanation.
While other automobiles always are compared to other models --- “Yeah, my Hyundai Veracruz is just as good as the Lexus RX 350…” --- owners of a BMW make no claims. To own a BMW is a statement in itself and usually the reply to any question about their car choice is simply met with a, “Yeah, it’s a BMW.” And no more is needed to be said.
The BMW 3-Series of automobiles has long been the standard in automotive arena. They have always been a driver’s car and pretty much across the board the 3-series has and still is well regarded by any automotive press worth their salt.
BMW’s “ultimate driving machine” philosophy is well demonstrated in the M3. While technically the M3 can be called a performance version of the compact 3-Series of autos, don’t be fooled into thinking you are getting less in any sense of the word.
The M3 is regarded by many as the standard bearer of the entire 3-Series. While first debuted in 1986, the M3 has kept up with technology and customer demand and has remained what many call; the best BMW has to offer.
So now that your choice of car has been decided, you need to decide what model will satisfy the desire for your ultimate driving machine. The M3 gives you not one driving choice, there are versions and packages to explore and so many options it will be a daunting task, but oh so fun, to ensure your BMW is exactly as you want it.
The M3 comes in many basic styles. There is the Euro model, the US model, the Evo 1, Europa late model, the Evo 2, the M3 convertible (always a nice choice), the Sport Evolution, the special Europameister, the Cetotto with the special edition Ravaglia (if you get your hands on one of those, keep it!), Cecotto Switzerland, or the GT coupe to just mention some of the basic ones.
With all of those there are special packages and series from Anniversary editions to custom designed M3s with special colored leather or wood grain as well as different chrome options not to mention all the engine and hardware options such as double-clutch gearboxes, quad exhaust pipes, or maybe a front air dam is more your style?
Sounds like a lot, but rest assured that no matter what version of the M3 you decide on you are still getting a BMW and that says it all!
As Car and Driver Magazine noted back in 1987 when reviewing the BMW M3, "The M3 pulsates as part of the soul of BMW's Motorsport division… All in all, they are very pleased by the M3."
