Cutting Car Care Costs

(NAPSI)-Congress is debating a bill that experts say could drive up auto repair costs. It would prevent independent repair shops from receiving the technical information necessary to repair today's cars.

Opponents of the bill say it would effectively put independent repair shops out of business and create an auto repair monopoly, forcing people to take their cars to a dealership for repairs. They believe that, without the competition, dealers would raise repair prices.

The Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA) is supporting a different bill: the Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act (HR 2048). It would require auto manufacturers to share technical information with independent repair shops, protecting people's right to choose where to have their cars repaired.

ATRA is a nonprofit trade association, dedicated to providing proficient service and ethical standards in the automatic transmission repair industry. ATRA's Golden Rule Warranty provides complete coverage from coast to coast at nearly 2,000 ATRA member shops.
