The V10 powered sports car known as the Dodge Viper SRT10 is made by Chrysler's Dodge division. The vehicle began its production in the year 1992 at the New Mack Assembly factory. Three years later, production of the two seat super vehicle would be moved to the Conner Avenue Assembly factory. The Dodge Viper SRT10, in addition to its numerous spin off cars, has been featured in several movies, music videos, TV shows, and video games.
The Dodge Viper is a futuristic version of the classic American muscle car. While a lot of people may insist that the inspiration for the Dodge Viper SRT10 came from the AC Cobra, the final version of the Dodge Viper SRT10 was in fact a lot bigger than that iconic car. In the end, the comparisons to the AC Cobra were viewed as a marketing device, despite the fact that Carroll Shelby was in fact involved with the Dodge Viper's initial design process.
The initial conception of the Dodge Viper SRT10 can be traced back to the year 1988, when the plan was hatched at the Advanced Design Studios of the Chrysler Corporation. The following February, it was suggested by Chrysler president Bob Lutz that the company should produce a modern day version of the Cobra. The Dodge Viper was born.
For the 2008 model year, the Dodge Viper SRT10 is slated to get a bump up to 600 horse power from its previous 90 horse power. Its torque will be bumped up to 560 lb / ft from its previous 25 lb / ft. The Dodge Viper SRT10's displacement will be increased to 8.4 liters. The new vehicle will boast better flowing heads with bigger valves, as well as variable valve timing on the dual throttle bodies and the exhaust cam.
Ricardo Consulting Engineers and McLaren Cars have contributed to the engineering of the new Dodge Viper SRT10. While the changes made outside of the power plant have been very minimal, they are still quite significant.
The car's T56 transmission has been replaced with a Tremec TR6060. The new gearbox on the vehicle has been paired with a revised shifter. It has been said that the shifts on this vehicle are nearly twenty percent quicker than that on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
On the 2003 model of the Dodge Viper SRT10, the vehicle boasted a Dana M44-4 rear axle. The 2008 model will feature a GKNVisco differential. This improvement will greatly help the tires get grip when they are under acceleration.
The vehicle's run flat tires have also been removed on the new Dodge Viper SRT10. The vehicle's new tires, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 high-performance tires, give the Dodge Viper SRT10 unmatched handling on nearly any circuit.
Another major change on the new Dodge Viper SRT10 is the fact that the exhaust system has been reworked. The 2008 version of the vehicle features an exhaust system with no crossover. This significantly reduces the amount of heat that is allowed to enter the cockpit.
