February 2006 (Medialink) - Tough, brash and eager to go, the new Dodge Hornet concept vehicle is designed to bring an ideal combination of European function and American fun to the competitive entry-level, B-segment market.
The Hornet’s European sensibility is evident in its engine size. It’s equipped with a 1.6L, 16-valve supercharged four-cylinder engine that is estimated to perform 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in 6.7 seconds and tops out at 209 km/h (130 mph).
Inspired by the look of fashion sunglasses, all the glass in the vehicle, including the oversize sunroof, is rendered in a deep “Blue View” tint which contrasts vividly with the car’s Liquid Silver exterior. All exterior lamps share a common “mechanical” style vocabulary that features prominent circular elements plus “triple orange slice” front and rear turn signals.
Extreme flexibility also is central to the Hornet’s sporty interior. The space-saving foam seats are exceptionally slim but comfortable. Good-looking as they are, the seats’ real beauty lies in their adaptability. Both the passenger front bucket seat and the 40-60 three-passenger rear seats fold forward and collapse to the floor to provide a flat load bed.
Dodge Hornet’s crisp black and slate grey interior is designed for both style and utility. The driver’s door trim panel, for example, contains a first aid kit, open storage bin, and a closed case with carrying handle that can be removed from the car. The driver’s side rear door contains a handy beverage cooler while the door opposite boasts a fold-out table module.
Chrysler Group continues to roll out their products on a global footprint with technology relevant for international markets (Diesel, RHD and low displacement engines).
Also on the Dodge side, the Caliber and Nitro, the first volume vehicles to lead the expansion of the Dodge brand outside of North America, will have their European premieres in Geneva. The high-performance Chrysler 300C Touring SRT8 will have its world premiere at the show, while the European debuts of the Jeep Compass and the high-performance Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 round out the Chrysler Group line-up for Geneva.
