How to Inflate Your Vehicle’s Tires

Your car tires are probably the most neglected part of your vehicle.

For some reason people forget about the tires of their car until it's too late.

Checking the air pressure of your vehicle’s tires should be part of your monthly car care maintenance routine.

Never guess your tire pressure by looking at the tires or kicking them.

The only accurate measurement is that which is done with a tire pressure gauge.

Once you have determined that your vehicle’s tire pressure is low, to inflate you will need the following items:

1. Pressurized air from a gas station or pressurized air pump

2. An air pressure gauge

When you park, make sure that you are close enough to the pump to easily reach all four tires with the air hose.

Step 1:

Unscrew the valve stem cap and attach the air hose to the valve stem; press down on the lever at the end of the air hose to release air and inflate.

Step 2:

After a few seconds, take the air hose off the valve stem and check the pressure with the tire gauge; inflate further if necessary, stopping every few seconds to check pressure until desired pressure is reached. Do not overfill the tire because it can explode; if you have overfilled, use the tire gauge to deflate until the appropriate pressure is reached.

Step 3:

Once the desired pressure has been reached, replace valve stem cap and repeat procedure on remaining tires.

Proper tire inflation can increase your car’s gas mileage, reduce the likelihood of a blowout, and maintain your vehicle’s overall manageability. These three steps can easily help you remain safe on the road and get the best from your vehicle.
