With gas prices going through the roof, auto manufacturers are going to have to put in some extra effort to work out a solution to help improve the fuel economy and still meet the emission requirements that we have today for gasoline engines.
Someone came up with a good idea to increase the fuel economy ratings of gasoline engines. They figured out that if they added hydrogen to the air/fuel mix of the engine it would give the gas a nice boost.
I have seen the hydrogen boost system for sale for about $900.00. It includes the components you will need and you can install it yourself, with or you can have it installed for an added fee. Make sure before you buy one, the seller offers total instruction, and that it is legal to put on your vehicle. Oh yeah, and that you can fuel it!
The hydrogen boost system should only take you a few hours to install. The system does require some maintenance, but it is only to refill the hydrogen generator with water when you fill up your gas tank.
Tests have shown excellent results, from 18 to 31% increase on your mileage. This may be worth a look into so you can get your money's worth at the gas pump. After all, with the way gas is priced you could have your money back in a year or so, depending upon how much you drive, or what size vehicle you drive.
Less Emissions
There is an added plus to the use of a hydrogen boost gas engine, for your pocket and the environment, there are very low levels of NOx emission gases, so you do not need any external NOx emission controls. This will save owners of diesel engines because the NOx emissions control is a problem for them. Diesel engines need a particulate filter to catch emissions which has to be changed, and this would be eliminated.
Hydrogen boost engine need nor require NOx or particulate control, and would only need an oxidation catalyst to help keep under control small amounts of exhaust that could be formed when starting your engine, and when warming it up.
The Future of Hydrogen Boost Engine
Right now, there are prototype engines being installed in SUV's. These big boys have more than enough room for the reformer and the rest of the system. Road testing will be conducted over a long period of time to include the areas of performance, integrity and endurance will be starting shortly.
The companies are considering four cylinder engines to be Four cylinder gasoline engines will likely be the possible subjects for the hydrogen boost engine since the goal is higher fuel efficiency and economy.
With the price of gasoline only rocketing upward, these new engines will be able to save us money, while getting better mileage per gallon. The hydrogen boost engine may cause a disruption in the plan of diesel sellers because it may turn people away from the diesel to the hydrogen boost engine vehicles.
If the plan runs smoothly, the hydrogen boost engine may be available in the not too distant future as a competitor in the engine field. Auto manufacturers are looking at them carefully, and following the trials. When it looks like the engine has passed the initial criteria, you know they will be put on the production line. So if you were thinking of converting to a diesel you may want to hold off for a while, because there may be something better coming up just beyond the horizon.
