Hyundai unveiled the third generation electric car named simply as the "i-Blue" in the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The hydrogen powered, zero emission concept car may be ready for sale by 2017.
The i-Blue differs from the first and second generations of designs of Hyundai's cell electric car. Rather than an SUV, which is based on a truck, the i-Blue is a stunning cross of a sedan and minivan. The crossover will be part of the silently growing parade of CUV vehicles that are hitting the market.
i-Blue has the power of 100 KW. It will also be supported with a fuel cell stack located in the floors of the electric car. Instead of placing them in the cells as part of the engine, the fuel cell in the floor will give more breathing space to the already complex engine of the cell electric car.
There will also be compressed hydrogen in the fuel tank of the car. Instead of 115 liters of gas, it will have 700 bar compressed hydrogen.
When the car in its full capability; the stored energy will enable the car to run at least 600 kilometers. Compared to other electric cars, the maximum speed of 165kmh is already a modest speed.
The exterior design of the car is unmistakably Hyundai. The slanting design of the head makes you remember of the classic Hyundai vans. However, as you look back on the car, the roof plunges creating a modern look.
The hood is more likely a U-shaped design that goes on and connects to the roof of the car. There car will be full of cameras - in the head lamp, rear combination and even in the mountain lamp. As this will be powered by electricity, it's no wonder cameras are a natural feature in this car. With the number of cameras installed, you could almost drive the car using the cameras alone.
The car will feature a more stretched out position. This feature is both for the passenger and the driver. The driver will enjoy a cock pit that will look like you're driving a space shuttle instead of a simple car. On the other hand, the passengers will also be able to have a wider space as they will be able to see things from the outside either from a window or from the omni-view feature of the car.
Over all, Hyundai is putting up a good fight with this environmentally friendly car. It has the power to cater the whole family and efficient enough to help save money on fuel.
