The Chevy Bel Air

Many people agree that the classic automobiles of the '50's and 60's need a comeback. However, not too much interest has been shown by car manufacturers, especially when it comes to the Bel Air concept car.

However, the Bel Air was very popular in the mid- and late-1950's, and it actually helped push Chevrolet over the top as far as popularity was concerned. During that time, Chevrolet actually beat out Ford when it came to the design, durability, and creativeness of their automobiles.

The Bel Air line produced by Chevrolet was on the market from the early 1950 years all the way to the early '70's, but the oldie favorites that withstand the test of time and are excellent for collectors and car hobby enthusiasts still come from the 1950's era that showed so much character from the automobile industry. A few of the automobiles that were produced by Chevrolet that branded the Bel Air name including the original Bel Air, the Impala, and the Biscayne.

Chevrolet's Bel Air was very popular for several reasons.

First, it was a family friendly vehicle that could be driven that included a lot of space for the vehicles of that era.

Secondly, it had a sleek and innovative design that was unmatched by any car manufacturer of the 1950's and '60's era.

Third, the Bel Air was a basic automobile for someone who wanted a simple vehicle without all the extra stuff that was included.

One of the identifying factors that was most recognized of the Bel Airs was the fact that Chevrolet made the Bel Airs standard with multiple tail lights on each side of the vehicle. As far as the engines are concerned for the Bel Air models that Chevrolet produced, a 3-speed manual transmission was the base model standard that was produced. However, in later production years, the automatic transmission was the one that was most popular.

The V-8 engine made its appearance in the Bel Air as well and there was even a turbo-charged engine in the later production models of the Bel Air.

Now, the Bel Air that was a favorite car in the 1950's and 1960's is nothing but a memory for most people. However, classic car enthusiasts continue to meet and show off their valuable Bel Airs, along with other classic cars of the same time period.

Additionally, though, a concept car of the Bel Air was introduced in 2002 that included some of the same Bel Air originals did, like the identifying feature of the tail lights.

But as of the current time, no car manufacturer has any enthusiasm for bringing back the Bel Air. However, if they did decide to do so, they would probably be greeted with cheers and reminisces from all over the United States because the Bel Air continues to be a classic car favorite.
