The NICE Mega City – Nice!

The Nice Mega City is a great electric city car and NICE stands for No Internal Combustion Engine. Each full charge means it can go up to 50 miles with a speed of 40 mph. It is a 2-seater and it made its first appearance at the British Motor Show this year. It’s got a range of 50 miles on a single full charge and it can go up to a top speed of 40 mph.

The great thing is that the Nice Mega City looks like a regular car – you need to look under the bonnet to realize that it’s different. The difference of course, though not perceivable, can be felt all right.

It’s a zero-emission car and that means no CO2 and it’s quiet as well as clean. Yes, it is slow as far as acceleration goes and it’s got a funny horn but it’s light, flexible and you could park it just about anywhere without a problem.

Of course, if you are in London, like most electric cars, the Nice Mega City should pay for itself in a few years considering that there is no road tax, discounted parking and no congestion tax if you were driving into the city every day. It’s a roomy car with more head room than a few other popular electric cars on the road and has good looking seats, dashboard and lots of luggage space at the back. Think of all the shopping you can store there.

The Nice Mega City comes in a range of colors to choose from and is made of ABS which is totally recyclable and this is put over a tough aluminum frame. It is available in the UK for £9,995 (in dollars double that amount for an approximate price)and has options like Sat-Nav, front fog lights and MP3 players with Bluetooth capable head units available.

The navigational capabilities extend to the driver being directed to the nearest point where he can recharge his battery in an emergency. The standard version comes with electric windows and a CD player. It’s got a gearbox that’s fully automatic and can be charged on any regular mains socket.

The specs? The engine od the Nice Mega City is an electric DC one, with a power of 4 KW and this drives the front wheels. The batteries are 8 AGM lead and the gel composition is such that you can recharge even though the battery charge has not completely gone.

It takes eight hours for a total single charge and comes with a 2-year warranty. Just an hour of charging means 20% of the total range and the mpg on UK roads is 1.5p a mile. The transmission is automatic and the tailpipe emissions are almost nil. The Nice Mega City complies with the vehicle crash regulations set by the EU.

The interior is rather sparse and not too much to talk about except that it is comfortable with better leg room and headroom than most other electric cars. What is great is the amount of boot space. For in-city driving, it’s a great small, nippy car which is also comfortable and spacious.
