Has it been rightly called the vision of the future?
The Flextreme is the car that was showcased by GM at the Frankfurt Motor Show after making its debut earlier at the Detroit Show.
Flextreme also uses an electric motor that is powered by a 1.3-litre turbo diesel engine. It also has a lithium-ion battery and that means it can go 55 km just on electric power!
This is a range that is well within the actual needs that the European daily commuters have. So, no CO2 to pollute their air. The turbo diesel engine based on CDTi is not connected to the wheels but charges the batteries so this increases the range when there is no power source that the battery can be plugged in to.
The Flextreme is a lot more than just environment consciousness however. It’s got style with lights that are shaped like a narrow boomerang and a swage line that is sloping in the side.
Even though the smart monocab body and the lightweight polycarbon panels are being designed with the environment in mind, the optimal aerodynamics as well as the alloy wheels that offer a reduced weight is known to add even further to the potential propulsion range of the car. The rear tailgate doors are butterfly-style and they open outwards so you can access it from the back as well as from the side.
As you would probably expect from Vauxhall, the Vauxhall Flextreme has got innovation in its bloodstream with its Flexload and Flexdoors which are patented and the ones at the back are rear-hinged so you have complete access to the cabin.
There are a number of cameras so the driver gets a good view of everything around the car. Inside the cabin, you’ll find that everything has been made with the most advanced materials.
For extra leg space, single rails anchor the car seats to the floor. It all adds up both inside and out to a car that is practical, roomy, good looking and green. And of course, it has the GM stamp of quality written all over it.
The latest developments that have been made on GM’s E-Flex style architecture were first shown on the well known Chevrolet Volt Concept and now they are being showcased on the Flextreme MPV-Style concept.
