Ways to Improve Your Truck’s Gas Mileage

(ARA) - At a time when gas prices are at an all time high, people who drive trucks are at a major disadvantage. Depending on the truck size, it can cost anywhere from $40 to $100 every time the tank needs to be filled.

Some have reacted by trading in their gas-guzzling trucks for smaller, more fuel efficient cars. Those who have decided to keep their trucks, whether for business or pleasure, are taking steps to improve their gas mileage. Among the easiest things you can do:

* Change your air filter. This is important because air is just as crucial as fuel in the combustion process that powers the engine. A dirty air filter prevents the cylinders from drawing in enough air, and throws off the fuel/air mix. This can result in poor fuel economy.

* Clean your fuel injectors. Dirt, sand and other impurities can clog your fuel filter and starve your fuel injectors. Starved or clogged fuel injectors can impede engine performance and reduce fuel efficiency.

* Drive slower. If your RPMs spin higher than 3k, you’re burning excess fuel for no reason. Keep your RPMs low and you’ll immediately see better mileage results.

* Purchase a tonneau cover that covers your entire truck bed. Not only do they stop tailgate drag, making your vehicle more aerodynamic, they keep the contents of the truck bed safe and out of sight, as well as protected from rain and wind in the summer time and snow during the winter months.

Tonneau covers are available in a variety of styles and price ranges. There are many different types of tonneau covers and they all offer the same basic benefits. If you’re looking for the one that makes the most sense, you’ll want to go with a soft rollup tonneau.

“All tonneaus provide a certain amount of protection, but there is a reason you buy a truck and having quick access to the bed is something truck owners should not have to give up. A rollup cover provides you all the advantages of a tonneau without the hassle of having to lift the top or remove and store the cover when you need to haul large cargo,” says Jeff Vanlaningham of Agricover, Inc manufacturer of the Access Rollup Cover, the number one selling soft rollup cover in North America.

The Access Cover offers up to 11 percent savings on your gas consumption. Here’s what you’ll save: Calculated by the current cost of a gallon of gas ($2.30), the miles per gallon you get from your truck (15), and the monthly mileage you travel in your truck (2000), in most cases it will save you over $272.00 per year, paying for itself in a short time.

The Access Cover is made from heavy-duty double coated vinyl that is highly durable and weather resistant. Clamp-on installation is fast and easy with a unique model specific system. Functional and stylish, the Access Rollup also features deluxe storage straps which secure the cover neatly behind the cab when rolled up, making it very practical when you need full use of your pickup bed.
