Hey guys. Two years ago I picked up this Toyota pickup. It has 95k miles and I plan on keeping it as long as I can.

There is severe damage to the bed, and ext cab driver side. Locating a bed here in Florida without dents, or thats not even on a truck, is very difficult.

What would it cost to fix the bed? is it fixable?

Thanks!!

The left side looks pretty easily repairable but the right side has some serious damage

Your best bet is to just drive it to a couple body shops and get estimates. We can't do it from a photograph.

So the rear passenger side IS fixable? How would they go about the repair? Cut and reform metal for that quarter or somehow reshape what is there?

Thanks for your response

Last I knew3 the left was the driver's side. That is the easily repairable side. The other side not so easy.

As already advised, take it to a body shop for an estimate and he will tell you what he can and can't do. We can't.

Paid a guy 300 to work on cab side and rear quarter. Above is his work. Popped the dent and use body filler to reshape lines. Looks like some surface imperfections and rear still needs more wet sand. But he claims wet sanding, primer, and prep and paint will take care of remaining surface imperfections.

Should I continue to repair the bed this way? Will it paint up alright with all the body filler? Will the paint last (if properly prepped) or should I scrap it and try to find a different bed?

I'm also worried a different bed may not fit due to possible frame dsmagr

That looks like a pure hack job. Why are you dealing with these "wanna be's" instead of a reputable body shop. This guy has probably made the problem a lot worse now.

OMG! I've seen a pot hole patched better than that!
I don't think you can save that whole panel now,

Well, lesson learned.

Moving forward, I'll be going through a friend of a friend who does work at a reputable body shop. He is sourcing me a bed and is going to assist me with the paint.

Regarding the cab job-- whats the best course of action for this? Cutting out the panel and welding a new panel in? Possible to save that side at all?

You need to STOP with the side jobs and friends of friends unless they are actually doing it at their shop.

These people may have the knowledge and talent but they do not have access to the spray booths and equipment of a shop.

Just take it dir4ectly to a reputable body shop before you reach the point of no return. Let them tell you what needs to happen with the cab.

This isn't a back yard type job.

For the 3rd time, the correct method is to take it to a reputable shop and let them analyze what is needed. We can't tell you that from a picture over the Internet.
They need to inspect it from the back and determine the condition of the metal, whether it is stretched, kinked or cracked anywhere.

The only advice we can give you is stop doing what you have been doing.

I'll just throw in my 2 cents here for what it's worth....probably 1.5 cents...

HT & Tom have already covered the correct way to get this done..Which is to take it in to a good body shop and let the professionals fix it...which with what I've saw will cost thousands...

So it really comes down to what you are happy with....The bed was real rough....he definitely had trouble with the lines...The door...while not perfect..he did a better job on the body line....of course all the flaws won't show until it gets paint...

Bottom line is what you are happy with......If you are ok with some wavey lines and dips and maybe the bondo cracking in a year or 2 then the price is right....

If you want it to look like it did before with matching paint.....The it's already be posted and it will be expensive

Thousands for the cab dent?

Right now I'm just worried about the cost for the cab dent. What is a ballpark for that before paint costs

I definitely don't want a temporary job that will crack later

I guess you just aren't listening.

We have told you multiple times that they only place you are going to get a price is with an on-site inspection at a body shop.

Since you just keep asking the same question and getting the same answer, I'm just going to close this now.

Seriously - Can't use "Bondo" like that if nothing else it can't expand and contract with varied temps with just metal so it's going to crack but that was so bad I'd be afraid of it falling off it's so thick. NO - not the way - it should hold a very slight magnet like those biz card magnets not real strong and do so anywhere. Bet that can't hold a powerful magnet now some looks like it's 1/2" thick!

What to do if you want this and it's nice and rust free, otherwise in nice shape all around is find the right place 1st. Know that very popular trucks in particular you can get - yes - Chinese made sections of a panel usually where they rust first and knew which vehicles this is totally one of them.

Did up a know rust bucket type not for looks wanted it strong again with those. All lower door, fenders up to whole parts already lap joint ready to do strong and look fine in my case didn't want it juiced and fall off! Total work only thing needed it strong more than looks.

IDK if you'll find whole good parts so easy used and new probably not but look or rather shop should be doing all this to your expectations.

That YOU have to both meet minds with the shop on what's expected and how much. This so far would be luck if you could even get that mess undone to try again or made it so hard to work with metal only till close enough for the magnet test,

Tom

Thousands for the cab dent?

Even the smallest dent w/paint is in the hundreds....Body work is expensive...

The thing with body work...when someone try to fix it 1st...It makes it that much tougher to get "right"

Years ago, I had a brand new top box (a week old), it got knocked off my bottom box and did a lot of damage, the lid wouldn't close, I was tempted to pound the lid back so I could lock it but didn't....The next day my buddy (15 year bodyman) came over and with a 2x4 and hammer got it to look like it had never been damaged...I told him I almost pushed the lid back...he said if I did that he would of never been able to get it to look that good...

With this damage...I would definitely put a new bed on it....wouldn't even waste time trying to save it..... As far as the door, you are already into it....You can get a quote from a body shop but probably won't like the price.....

I can't tell from the pic but the door doesn't look "horrible".....prep it, shoot it and see what it looks like....You've already gone this far.... As long as he prep'd the metal right and got a good mix on the bondo, it might be alright...

Just to show everyone how hard it is to estimate body repair from a picture, the car in this picture is sitting in our shop and the insurance adjuster looked at it yesterday.

This is a 2003 SL500 with 80K and in great condition.

It doesn't look like much but believe it or not, this car was totaled. Over $10K in damage
