2000 GMC Jimmy door hinge fix

so i have a 2 door Jimmy, and like many 2 door vehicles, the hinges wear to the point that they need to be fixed. this is my first GM 2 door, the other makes that i have owned the hinges bolt on, which makes fixing them straight forward and easy. i know the aftermarket sells repair kits, but how do you go about doing this? i have to assume there is drilling and or reaming involved. but to me it looks like the fender would have to be removed at a minimum, and then how you would make certain the door is properly aligned before drilling i do not know. is this something that can be done in my driveway? or is this something that a professional NEEDS to do?

I haven't actually done one but i know there is a kit available that consists of new pins and bushings for them to sit in.
The current hole has to be drilled out to accommodate the bushing and then the new pin installed.
I know the hinge is spring loaded so that presents another problem. I believe they make a tool to compress that spring.

If the common type I think these are they are welded and must be drilled out to replace. You'll freak at the cost get a quote from a body shop they are not serviceable. You and or prior owners are supposes to lubricate them and they can last indefinitely. Nobody does so naturally they wear out till you can't close the door anymore and or sticks shut.
Check for that prior to purchasing used vehicles and put on a list of lubing those they can last on lots heavier doors than that,

i do lubricate them from time to time. but that may be part of the problem. i do a considerable amount of off road / 2 track driving. so dirt is part of the equation.

Harsh use I can see being harder on anything. I'm going on looking at a 2001 Tahoe *Chev" should be the same. Family and still have it. OMG driver's door mostly the others are working. Driver's wasn't apparently fixable without some hard work - lousy idea who ever thought those up. That one can't close the door at all without lifting it up has chipped paint even. Doesn't matter for that one they were warned and it's a dump run thing now only.
If yours is BOTH doors I find that odd unless for all this time did it always have both doors used? It's usually driver's door only.
Take a hard look even more than I did - two of these types if exactly that. Another whole vehicle not sure if GM at all I customer and friend found a body shop with a tool that if door itself wasn't weak or rusted bent the dang thing up to meet the latch and worked! I've done that on some or moved the striker down so it closed at all.
I fear if real and you see it door rubber could be wrecked isn't always so easy to find or very cheap if at all probably some clone by now?
Body work is NOT my specialty but fix things no matter what if possible. Look for a "FIX" kit by now so many of these made may just leave it and drill a hole down for a pin with some offset bushing would work - like an alignment shim if you know what I mean. Turn the shim the hole isn't on center.
GMC + Chev truck should mostly be same hardware parts? I'm a couple years into some real rust repair, bumper and more on a '97 Chev body. I think it was USA-1 GM Truck parts were cloned parts but also assorted other stuff - real truck common stuff should never end for this stuff but would be cloned not real GM stuff.
There's a way without what appears to be VERY invasive to even do properly cost or not,

it is just the drivers door. IMO, its a bad design. typical american industrial decision, it will last long enough for the vehicle to be paid for, so its good enough. an idea just popped into my head, but i have not even looked at the vehicle to see if it would work. if it pans out, i will post back.

Year 2000 and on the decade trucks change - usually but not always. I think you'll find lifting door it's the bottom one is worn, top on still OK? The changes from the 1990's was similar but just still welded. Other is wipers do NOT stand up and you lost the iron block engines! Wipers? I use one if just one model year older could get the 454/7.4 Vortec all iron and no fake bumpers. I plow snow with it and it's outside for '97 no plastic sh*t no air bags (just what you want slamming it around with a 1/2 ton thing out front is a blast in the face! Glass headlights can toss for under $10 bucks.
Back - the wipers stand up straight so you can clear off solid ice without those frozen into it! Duh. Still take 10 gallons of fuel idling to be warm enough to move ice (if so) off the thing can't open both door one side will be iced in so solid unlocked or not forget that one use the other. Now they take the key lock hole off the passengers door! Ya think the dang remote in a soaked pocket (has none) will open that - no. Battery of remote maybe dead, door item stuck inside, locks and windows can't work yet so do without for a SNOW/ICE truck. Last ones don't do that. No push button 4X4 shifter it's a metal rod but you leave it and it stays in 4X4 before expected crap and expect it where I am. Bench seat can get three in with shovels is tight but can. Rubber floor can sweep out inches of snow dragged in with your shoes/boots. if in time. Carpet would be solid ice? WTF man it's for work not play.
Just a pet peeve trucks can be luxo boats and can't get one to work without 20 cup holders, GPS and camera views work great thru 3"of ice - try it. I just don't get it even that one has STUPID built in was just lesser of the evils of others.
I don't work it hard so it's lasted.
Last one TMK they don't make them OE anymore just like it. You'd want that for off road I just don't the real ones are close enough to that!
