2016 MKZ Base 2.0L w/Rear Park Assist
Pls see attached photos to see damage caused all by myself! Frown Need steps to Remove damaged part n Replace with new one.

1) The Bumper Cover, Right Side Bumper Cover Extension, Exhaust Trim and Reflector appear to be OK.

2) Hunting down the part right now. Tried Rock Auto but their shipping is crazy expensive. Listed on JunkYard Dog; no luck so far. Waiting to hear from 2 local dealers. Tips for other parts sources are appreciated.

3) Any special tools required?

4) What clips/fasteners are needed? Can I use any of the old ones?

I opened an Image Management account and uploaded pix, but can't figure out how to attach photos. Help? I'm a rookie at this. Many thanks for your assistance and patience.

Your pics didn't show so I just looked up the part anyway found for $189ish + $85 to get it to you. That's unpainted (you said you are a "rookie" at this) that much is going to be costly! Part # found is FO1195153C
Have you asked a pro auto body shop what options you have for the damage known never mind unseen? I suggest it.
Whatever color you have no doubt is done in stages is hard to get just right.
This isn't my specialty of the auto biz this nicer car (probably still) would send out at least for the paint part.
There are assorted clips and fasteners used bring old or broken ones with you if you take this on even the chain parts outlets carry them or will get them no harm in asking.

It's harder to do tools and paint than I think, you think,

No paint required. Remove and Replace only. The part is black plastic. If there was paint involved I never would have asked. The part # you supplied is for 2017–2020. I need to make sure that part works for my car. In 2016 I bought a ski boat with a throttle body injected Mercruiser (GM) V8. The previous owners never told me they ripped out part of the fuel system so the boat wouldn't run to wide-open throttle. No replacement part available. Couldn't get a local Mercruiser shop to even look at it. Took awhile, but I figured out how to make the computer think the part was still there, and it runs great. I have great respect for what u guys do, and am not afraid of a challenge. I've sent a message to Image Management try and get help with the pics.

Sorry about that I just used Google Images for it and up top shows some places ready to sell you stuff. IKD if all are ready to install or some had a finish?? That was new, used could be cheaper but need to search (the junk yards do that for you) whole country for one a tree squished or something most stuff gets fixed.
************
Was an avid boater both Mercruiser and fav OMC was last one. Parts were readily available new or some hacked aftermarket - that was quite a while ago worked on anything the moves + lots that doesn't.
Was in Rhode Island then OMG a boating/yachting Mecca choice of places. Keep in mind the 'pandemic' screwed up so many different things no telling what just isn't back up yet parts and 1,000s of other things.

I used "Image search" find me lots of odds and ends out there up top they are paying so would want to help you for parts?

If you are in trouble with a boat it's fine just make that separate in "Open Posting" please below. The most active other here is from FL also the capitol of boats and yachts. Other maybe is LA (Louisiana) and Pacific NW, Great Lakes (any) you'll find what you need and pay for it too - cha-ching! Been there done that.
Said I used "Images" for searches first see who's watching YOU on the hunt yourself for parts. If advertising they must be open for biz or what for?

You can't install it without painting. It is raw plastic and the weather will destroy it almost immediately. It requires prep work because even new one comes with damage. It has to be primed, painted with base color and a clear coat applied. The paint also has to be treated with a flex agent to prevent cracking.

Then all the attachments have to be transferred from the old one to the new one before it is installed.

I haven't seen the pictures yet but you likely have more hidden damage behind the bumper.

Can anybody tell me how to post pix?!? They have been successfully uploaded to the Image Management System. I followed the directions to the letter and all that showed up are the broken links in my OP. Is it because I'm on a MacBook Pro?

This is not impact damage. I caught the lower lip of the valance on a piece of my boat dock that was too close to the driveway. When I pulled forward to get off it, it caught the valence and pulled it off the bumper cover on the passenger side.

These instructions are pretty clear. I really don't know if they work on a Mac.

Pics somehow just inexplicably show or not for me but not allowing pics from this device either. Here's one that won't show either > (no)

Let it be. This part if only the plastic may be unpainted new/used not found yet is common the junkyards own that territory.

Lots of last ones for sale I think they mean it? I ended up on EBAY will link you along to who is selling the part(s) needed.

Tools on you if this was that simple I doubt what I've found would be so costly.

How about send the whole job out and negotiate the costs with an auto body shop and be done with it? No tools, this hassle is what they do - have all tools you'd only use this once I hope? Tom

Finally got the pix up! With the required painting, sounds like this job is out of my skill set. Yesterday, went to a diner I'd frequented for over 20 years, but lost touch when COVID hit. Same staff as before and I asked the waitress who's worked there forever how her family was. Turns out her daughter, who I've known since she was little is now doing full-car paint jobs at her hubby's body shop! They have a ton of great reviews online. I'll be going there soon for an estimate. Thanks again for yr help.

Pics too large don't bother trying.
Sounds great so
come back and say how
it all went. Agreed it's
not over your head
it's not worth it unless
you do this all the time to your
cars! :-) Tom

Yes, you most likely have to remove the whole bumper to access removal of those parts. They should definitely be painted or the finish will deteriorate.

Here are three estimates that I got going to each shop so they could examine and photograph the damage in person. A couple of things to note.

> None of the quotes contain labor or materials for the paint that other commenters on this thread have said is required for the black valance. Any paint charges you see are for painting a replacement bumper cover.

> My car has Rear Park Assist (RPA), which is a camera system that displays on the touchscreen on the interior center stack. It requires a special bumper cover that costs 4X the price of a car without RPA. Note: My RPA is working exactly the same as before I tore up the valance.

First up is the HIGH bid (real high). This quote comes from a locally owned collision shop with a 4.7 rating on Google. When you walk in, you stand in a pristine lobby with automotive art, memorabilia, and a collection of meticulously restored gas pumps from 1920s to the 60s.

In case this is too hard to read, the grand total is $2066. This includes replacing the bumper cover. There was no offer to opt out of that repair. Also, what are 2 hour Pre-Post Scan and Clear Codes, $190 for?

Here is the MEDIUM quote from Service King, a national chain (franchise?) that's rated 4.5 on Google. It was originally almost $1,600 until I said "no thanks" on the bumper cover. Their lobby is clean, with comfy furniture and free coffee and water.

Service King wants to replace the right exhaust trim insert (which I'm pretty sure doesn't need replacing) for $285 plus labor, and charge $170 for for pre/post scans.

The last 2 pages from a local, family owned shop (Mom, Dad, Son and Daughter-in-Law all work there.) Their lobby is all business. I think there might have been a chair in there, but I can't remember seeing a customer waiting area. They are rated 4.7 on Google. The quote is $675 and I think I'm getting a good buddy deal because I know the daughter-in-law's mom, as I mentioned earlier. Dad cautioned me that that they won't know everything until they get it apart, which I understand. This quote in interesting in what they are NOT charging for.

As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I'm pretty sure in going with the low quote. Your comments are welcome.

Well, the first estimate does indeed have $418 in paint labor and supplies.

The $190 has to do with stored codes from the parking sensors but I have no idea if there actually are any issues there. The 2 hours for that is pretty high.

I wouldn't believe a thing Google says about a business. Those businesses pay other people to write their reviews. I have been asked many times. The cheapest isn't always better and can in fact be very bad.

After seeing your pictures it's very possible that black part is ready to install but i couldn't say for sure. If the bumper requires any repair at all it will need painting.

Yes, the first estimate has paint and labor for a new bumper cover. The other two don't. I've had reasonably good luck with online reviews. The Mom and Pop shop is a personal referral for someone I've known for over 20 years and trust. We'll get back to you guys when the work is done.

You're a good sport CopyKat and I feel your frustration

these things just are.
I vote for the "Mom & Pop" shop you've known BTW. If in
the biz let them deal with the snags that pop up
in fixing this.
I look forward to hearing it's all done and back to everyone happy
About it again - these things just do so much
unseen damage the first quote built that all in apparently.
Bet it seemed like nothing when it happened
look at the hassle it's causing!
I said right away not my biz BTW just because I never could have the
clean area or room to do paint anything so finish
paint (I've restored several cars) was last and out it went
to well know artists at it with dust free rooms, well lighted just
to do that. The dirty repair stuff and that don't mix well.

Hope you have some other car to use while this gets done
that alone (for me) no problem most folks its own issue, Tom

Onward> this too will pass

All fixed and I couldn't be happier. Looks as good as it did before I tore it up, was in and out of the shop in 2 days and the cost was LOWER than the original estimate. They included a part they wouldn't know it they needed until they got it apart. Wasn't needed and it dropped the bill $200. Total = $434 and I gave them a 10% tip. Black plastic replacement part was the only thing needed and required no paint.

Looks fine in my view. Sounds like a pro shop helped and determined things in person most things really need that.

Off line here for a while now wish you luck and so glad you seem to have that done right car looks great to me I hope for you it never happens again :-)
