I own a TOYOTA CAMRY LE , the rear driver side passenger side door received a very big bad dent , and when i took it to a body shop , i received an estimate of $1100. They say that the whole door needs to be replaced and a new paint job needs to be done. can anyone help me out if the Denting can be removed in house. By using a dent removal kit or hot glue or something. I dont need the door to be looking brand new , i just dont want the Dent at least not such a big dent.

If it's the door and only the door and stuff that goes in and on it that doesn't surprise me at all for a price and NO you could spend a month of Sundays trying to bend that back and still all the stuff inside is probably all broken. Get another estimate and try two prices, new whole door plus paint or used and likely need paint unless wildly lucky if only damage is on the door, T (EDIT PS - Remember nothing comes with a new door you add what it needs, glass, rubber, latch, window and lock motor, handles and it doesn't come the color you want to needs painting)

Can't see that pic but doesn't matter. Just paint if nothing was wrong but color wrong would cost some bucks. If unseen to you it's bent inside such that it really can't be fixed in reasonable time you buy new part of the door or used one whole. If it nicked up other paint in door jams that's more work. I'm not there to see it all and YOU need to say what you wish is to look like when finished if you care at all. Already said try another estimate. You are highly unlikely to fix this yourself if you even had to ask, T

Thanks Hammer for posting the pic. That door is toast IMO. It's creased, damage to unseen support inside AND look at the "rocker" panel under it also is damaged. If your quote was to fix all that it's in line IMO. You are NOT going to just tap that out and match up paint. Top bright metal may not straighten either. Look at your estimate now itemized for what will be fixed by that quote. If this was mine I would get a whole good used door, keep the old for a while and swap the interior panel and anything that you didn't notice yet that broke inside with good/better stuff. I'd request the rocker panel be fixed not replaced on that car by the damage as seen in that pic. Want to save some bucks? Call around salvage/junk yards with the color code for your paint now and do a hunt for the exact color and just do the whole door and be done. I'm not an auto body paint and dent repair person by now retired from trade in general but we deal or dealt with this. I have waited for limos with such type damage to send a used door by air same or next day for the right color, near always plain white or black and swap them myself as they couldn't have a car down a day longer over even paint to dry if it could be avoided. IMO your current estimate is for a used door now plus the paint job and swap interior parts if good from dented up door. Can't know prices for everything. Guesses: Door used any color but good = $400. Paint and materials $150-$200. Labor to do all easily brings it up to about $1,200. There could be unseen damage to sealing rubber of door jam on body or either used or damaged door to add to that, T

Dude, the dent is really big but the expenditure is really high, you can mend the dent this month & paint it next month. Also you can take it to another service station , they might tell you less expenditure.

It's not a high quote at all IMO. Why fix it at now or touch it as that door is history. If you want to do something productive start looking for a good whole used door, same color a maybe and skip the paint totally. $1,000 is nothing anymore plus it's a Camry so door used quite likely worth more as a popular car. At a minimum this would take a new metal skin and see if the rest can be straightened enough to take the new outer skin. Hey - it still opens and works just ugly for now. Anything can be fixed. This could be all kinds of work and made paint ready but would far exceed the time it would take. If OP just wants a shop to pop or slam that out some less than it is now it still would need checking. Messing with this at all is risking the regulator for the window probably stressed now to drop the glass hopelessly inside door then will be worse problem and a must to do something better, T

Sport - in the process of checking your poor suggestions and comments about stuff you really don't know anything about and worse on other people threads. Read some forum rules before posting. Threads over about a month are generally dead so leave those alone please and a mod will close them out to stop just what you are doing, T

I agree with Tom on this. The quote you mentioned is pretty accurate. Actually very reasonable for: - that door taken off and good parts in it (if any are still good) saved. - used but good door bought, put on, and labored for a decent paint job. - rocker panel replaced. I agree it's unlikely that can be repaired but IMO it may not be impossible. It's quite a bit of work that would actually take even a crew of 3-4 people working on it a few days to fully complete including allowing the paint to dry. $1100 is a cheap quote. I also support Tom's other advice to call around to local junk yards and see if you can find one that has a cheap door. If you find a door and buy it yourself most shops will usually install it for you and do the rest of the labor to make it as good as it can be if you want them to do more than just put it on. The quote you were given includes buying a door, which the shop has a base cost for, they didn't and won't bother looking for one until the customer drops the car off, gives them the keys, and says "do it".
