We did not hit ANYTHING!
We would have noticed this when walking out to the car.
You just leave the car in the lot and later they told us of damage. Crazy!
Any idea what could have caused this and does it look fresh?
Thank you.

I don't know what kind of answer you are expecting here but obviously something hit it.

I am sorry, I thought someone might know...is this hitting a curb. I also thought it looked old and I thought someone with experience might know.

Chip of missing red paint looks fresh. Hey - these days I'd take picture of a blind dropped off car they could have done that moving it around and yes curbs can do just that if open door over a parking bumper thing THEN GET IN hard a maybe.
It's yours to argue it now if you did that or it happed after drop off if not caught on camera it's your word and theirs to me. Good luck,

Experience at what, hitting curbs?
It looks to me like someone backed into it with something hanging out of the back. It's too high for a curb and too low for a bumper.
Possibly the car sideswiped a rock or something similar.

The damage doesn't even look recent. It's all rusty.

Re: Car rental company charging us for this damage Sign In

However damaged the rust is clear it's an older used car just IMO below standards of any reputable car rental place so what's the deal? Rust was there when you got it so what else?
This isn't so mechanical about it rather the terms of using that car needed to be understood clearly were not.
It's just now personal I now wouldn't rent a thing from a place like that just the looks of that. I did once left full cash deposit (only way then) would have lost it if they played games like this would have to eat that but OMG that car was junkyard food BAD lots worse than that, springs poking thru the driver's seal, window fallen off in driver's door went in asked for carboard to sit on please glad it didn't rain while I used it for a few days - that bad but knew it.

For today this isn't that far from that experience.
Nothing very recent but do recall a check list of known dings, scratches of a used car upon return a real person checked the car not this drop it off game for a rough rental car by then impossible for any responsibility on my part I knew better.

Good grief today everything has cameras that place and you should have so no arguments about it,
