Delay in getting an estimate - how long is reasonable? Sign In

The shop to which I normally take my 2005 Honda Accord recently came under new ownership.

My car was towed there recently due to at least a broken axle, although there may be other problems. For several days, they haven't even looked at it to give me an estimate, and they won't tell me when they will get around to it.

I understand I didn't have an appointment, but not even knowing what is wrong and how long it will have to be in there makes it difficult to plan.

My question is, how long is reasonable to wait for an estimate? When should I consider having it towed somewhere else for quicker service?

You just want to know how long? Ask them. You didn't have an appointment as you said and if they are up to their necks in existing appointment and work YOU are after that. I doubt they can know extent of how long your car will take without some work and checking adds to needing time to tie up a bay they might not have extra room for.
End all is call. If YOU are in a hurry ask for another place if they can't tell you at least when they can start,

Either they are so busy they don't have time or maybe for some reason they are pushing you to the back.

You posted this in an auto body section so if you brought mechanical work to an Auto Body shop, they may be subbing it out.

? You called this a "broken axle" as if this was some accident? Was it or just for repair of what type?
If this was an accident of some sort it changes everything. Some (place is new) shops do a wide assortment some don't so who deicide to take there? If you have a towing service and they took it there and it's in the wrong place they owe you to take it out to a correct one IMO.
IDK - accident damage frequently would end up at an "auto body" shop and like Hammer Time said if subbing out work would slow things down,
