How to Fix Trunk Latch Sign In

2008 Nissan Sentra 2.0
50000 Miles

The trunk wouldn't open neither with the remote nor with the lever, first noticed this afternoon that the remote activated the mechanism but failed to fully release the trunk, then lever worked. After a few attempt the level failed to open the trunk as well. I had to fold and use the emergency cable to open trunk, and found that the bottom part of the locking mechanism is loose - seems somehow disconnected from the body.

I am not familiar with the part names, and can't find instructions / videos how to fix the problem, or is it something that dealer needs to take a look?

Thanks for any help you could provide.

Can you take a picture of the latch assembly, so we can see what your looking at? You can upload your picture to a hosting site and then paste the link in here.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Re: How to Fix Trunk Latch Sign In

Latches (trunk or door) that have multiple functions, have a "neutral" position. The mechanism must return to the neutral position every time it's used. If it doesn't, the next function may be unsuccessful. This usually happens when a small return spring in the latch breaks or becomes unattached. You can disconnect and remove the latch. Bench test it by manually locking it and unlocking it.
The lower part which is attachéd to the rear body panel is called the striker. This part should not be loose! If it is, tighten it up. There should be some adjustment also.
