Hi,

I have a white Hyundai i20. I get it cleaned everyday.
Recently i noticed that the front bonet of the car has become rough.
I can feel small spots on the car which are not visible but can be felt.
I also feel that the bonet has lost its shine.
How can I fix this. Please help.

Thanks
KK

You'll have to determine if it's ON the finish or degrading finish paint/clearcoat if used. Some can be removed effectively, buffed out or may need new paint. I can't tell from here,

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response.

I think that its on the finish. I didnt use the car for a week and was left standing in an open space during that week. After that week i noticed the roughness.

The car is One and a half years old... so i assuming that its not the degrading finish paint. It has been under good care so far.

What to do next ?

You said you cleaned it everyday -- what exactly do you mean by that?

It's unlikely at that age to have damage from sun or oxidizing from age so now in that it sat for a week. Is that when you noticed this? Could it be some kind of tree sap or any chance someone was spray painting something anywhere near enough to get on your car? IT'S HAPPENED!

It's so hard to tell so rely on your observations totally and just have some ideas that may help.

* In cleaning, plain washing shouldn't really be an issue unless you are using a wire brush and hope you know better.
* I will advise NOT to use any wax or polish that is abrasive on such new paint. Leave that for real chalky paint on older stuff.

My favorite line of car clean and polish in and outside products is b MaGuire's (sp?) that does make a cleaner wax/polish that through some of their magic is a mild chemical that will remove most thin THAT ARE ON THE PAINT JOB without harming the paint. A great advantage is you can use it in bright sun and do not have to remove it right away like some products get so difficult with time.

It will usually get out bird dropping stains, most tree sap if in reasonable time and stains from rain alone which some places suffer from especially noticed on while or very light color paints.

You seem to care quite a bit so maybe some advice from a car body and paint shop seeing/feeling this in person would be necessary?

I'm not sure what else to suggest. As great as computer pics and abilities are nothing beats being there in person to inspect it,

T

You should try a clay bar on it. Sometimes small pieces of dirt don't come off when you wash it, but a clay bar will pick up the smaller pieces.

How do those clay bars work DS? I've seen them but never have used one. Does it just remove contaminants or is it a form of waxing?

As for the original poster....Seems to me it just needs a good wax job. If DS recommends a clay bar I'd use that first and then wax if needed. I wax both of our vehicles twice a year.

Basically it is like play doe. You spray a special lubricant on the surface you want to do and rub the clay back and forth on it.

I've used them on my vehicles and they do take the grittiness out. The won't take the gritty feeling out of a shabby paint job that was sprayed in a sand storm.

Mike, all that showed in your post is the quote from the OP. Also, this thread has not had any activity for months and we like to leave most anything that hasn't been touched on for a few weeks as dead. The big reason for this is that if a post is made to a thread, an e-mail is sent to everyone who ever posted to it. For a poster that hasn't been back for a while, its a mere nuisance but for those of us who are regulars here they can clog up an inbox pretty easily.

He was a spammer Nick. He's gone now.

Caught him in another thread posting a link and figured him out. But you have the big ban button, I just used the little one.
