Hello,

about 3 weeks ago, a friend of mine opened the back door of my car into a Grand Cherokee that was parked next to us. The hit caused a small scratch and a smaller dent. The man saw what happened and asked me for my insurance information and everything, and I gave it to him.

Yesterday he texted me telling me he got a quote for the repair.
I honestly was shocked when I saw the number on he's asking me to pay! 600$!!
Can someone please tell me if I am crazy or if that price is just too much?!

I will attach pictures of the scratch and the estimate details. Maybe someone can look at the paper and see that something isn't right.

I appreciate all the help.

No, that doesn't seem unreasonable at all but why are you even involved if you had insurance. That's the insurance company's job to deal with the estimate and argue the numbers. Let them do their job.

he has your insurance info SO let them handle it, they will review and decide if reasonable OR make an offer what you see as reasonable, really a 7yr old car with a door ding make them an offer...ie full detail and a bottle of scratch fix from duplicolor

Hold on. Your insurance should be dealing with this not you personally unless you wanted to pay out of pocket to avoid a claim.
$600 bucks is nothing today for a real paint repair done to perfection and the person who owns that vehicle may really care.
Your images don't help - too many reflections and anything, even door dings and scratches need be looked right at plus know how many stages of paint it takes, time wasted to let it dry and could really crank up the bill by tossing in a rental car on top while waiting for it to be done.
Sorry - no sympathy from me,

T

I will probably switch to my insurance then.
I was hoping that I could avoid a raise in my rates.

Not really looking for sympathy here, just experienced opinions and facts.
Thank very much everyone. I just needed to know how reasonable that price is

hey,
you don't have to worry. It doesn't appear to be a scam. Paint job costs ton these days. And since your insurance company is dealing with it, they will inspect and calculate.
