Question about finishing up a small panel Sign In

Hello, I'm fixing some dents in a small side panel and I have it sanded smooth in the areas I wish to redo, but I reckon I should primer and paint the whole panel, not a large area. The parts of the panel that have not been worked on, before applying primer, should I lightly sand to create adherence (teeth) for the primer? With 2000 grit, 600? thx.

Paint doesn't stick to surfaces that aren't sanded. You also need to remove every hint of wax. 600 wet sanded will work if the surface is otherwise smooth.
