Rear Damage to 2015 Elantra

Hello Everyone,
I have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. My son accidentally hit a pole while backing out of the driveway. Pictures are attached.

You can see in the second photo that there are small cracks to the left and right sides.
I would like to know from you all what a fair and reasonable cost estimate for repairing this would be. Also, would it be possible for me to do some or all of the repairs myself (it wouldn't have to be perfect)?

Not sure on an estimate. You could run to a body shop and get an estimate, just to get a good idea. They could also tell you the unseen damages. The price to repair may be more than your insurance deductible.
It looks like there is some sheet metal damage and the trunk is pushed up and the rear fascia is pushed back. Don't know your abilities, but you should have a body shop tech take a look.

You could push out the major part of the dent yourself but that's about your limit.
You can use a heat gun to soften the creases and push from behind using a 2X4 or something without any sharp edges.
Just remember that if you do this yourself there is a good chance you will push too much in one spot and stretch the rubber which may make it impossible to repair by a professional at a later date. The bumper could be professionally repaired right now but after you mess with it, it may require a new bumber to get it perfect in the future.

Anyone have a best guess as to cost if I have a professional fix this?
Also, does the damage to the trunk seem serious, or could I live with it?
I am trying to avoid a claim. The car is my son's name.

The only way you are going to find out is by having a professional look at it. That's the thing with body work. The worst of it isn't always visible.
