My daughters 2010 blue Mazda has white paint scrapes on the outside of the front fenders where the former elderly owner had issues getting into her garage. I used my circa 1965 can of rubbing compound on the white scrapes to absolutely zero effect. Is there a new product that works on modern paint?

I'm assuming this is original paint that still has the clear coat on it. If so you can get a rag soaked in lacquer thinner and rub it off. If the scratches have penetrated the clear coat, you can't do anything for it beyond that. It would have to be repaired and repainted by a body shop.

Take you finger nail and drag it across the scratch. If you nail snags, it's too deep and all you can do is wash off the paint stains with thinner.

Thanks. I'll try lacquer thinner when she comes to see us on a warmer day.

That day came. I used acetone. Removed all the scrapes. Thanks.

You can go for many DIY ways to deal with dents. You can easily remove shallow paint scratches yourself with polishing compound, sandpaper and polishing pads.

Hope this will help! Smile
