Replaced speakers now window doesnt work Sign In

I just bought an 06 Monte Carlo LT about a week ago and upgraded the front door speakers earlier today. When I put everything back together the passenger window no longer rolls up. It is stuck all the way down. I can't roll it up from either side of the vehicle. Any idea what I might have screwed up? So far I know I have power to the switch and the motor. Except when I try it from the drivers side switch, then I only have power rolling down. I can hear the motor trying to roll it down when I press the switch on the passenger side and no noise at all when pressing the switch on the drivers side. Like I said, it is stuck all the way down.

If you don't have power coming out of the switch when you hold it up, then you likely have a bad switch.

But if power is getting to the motor doesn't that mean the switch is fine? I tried putting a new motor on it today and the new motor also only spins one direction.

You just said you didn't have power to the motor in one direction.

You need both power and ground to operate the motor. They reverse polarity to change direction.

Since this all started right after you installed your speakers, you might want to remove the door panel and look to see if there is anything you may have done, damaged, or missed. Inspect the wiring really good. Make sure the tan wire going from the passenger window switch to the driver's window switch isn't damaged or open. If that wire is open, the window won't roll up from either switch and will only go down from the passenger switch.

That sounds exactly like what it is doing but I can't see anything wrong with the wires.

Have you made any voltage checks with a volt meter? You can also take an ohm meter and measure the resistance of the tan wire between the driver's door switch connector and the passenger's door switch connector. Should show continuity. Make sure both switches are unplugged if you do the resistance test.

After inspecting all the wires it just started working again. Perhaps one of them was just pinched.
