Unibody vs Body on Frame Repairs

Unibody vs Body on Frame Repairs Sign In

I'm thinking of getting myself a new car but I'm planning on doing some heavy off-roading in it. I keep hearing and reading not to get a unibody, to get a body on frame, because if I smash the car into a tree or something it's much more difficult, if at all possible, to repair a unibody than a body on frame. There's some good unibody options out there like the Jepp Grand Cherokee and the Land Rovers, and watching collision repair videos on YouTube it actually seems about the same to me to repair a unibody or a body on frame. But I figured you guys would know best. Is there a noticeable difference when repairing? Or in modern vehicles is it almost the same?

Full frame cars are becoming a thing of the past. It is something basically only used on rear wheel drive trucks. Unibody is the way cars are built now, mostly in FWD.

The only major difference in repair is that you can no longer remove the whole nose of the car in one piece like you used to. You can still replace the hood and fenders but the inner fenders are part of the car. Other than that repair isn't much different.
