Window regulator broken after glass repaired from theft damage

Window regulator broken after glass repaired from theft damage

2016 Subaru Crosstrek
The driver side front window was broken by a thief. Took in to replace the glass. After it was repaired I lowered the window, heard broken glass in the door and then the window wouldn't close.
Took the car back and they said the regulator is broken. Was this caused by broken glass they left in the door? Or as they said, sometimes the regulator is damaged from the pressure of the window breaking. Are they being honest with me or not?

Not sure without looking at it to see what part of the regulator had broke. Was there actually broken glass still inside the door after they installed the new window and you drove away with it?

IMO - Repair was a hack job leaving broken glass in door is plain rude and lazy if nothing else. Can't say if regulator was harmed from the breakage or the repair and may not be known none the less it's broken consistent with the hack job of glass replacement not even checking that it worked properly a few times.
I'd have a complaint with this work as you really have to go back, clean out glass anyway and any weather seal not put back on or ruined checked or fixed. Can't leave it that way if window worked as door may not drain water properly and cause future problems. Problem is right now I wouldn't want that place to touch my vehicle again so rock and a hard place.
If insured for this try asking what you can do and who to go to that will conform to good work for you especially since you are probably covered for the job that was insult to injury IMO for it being broken in the first place,

Yes, when I lowered the window the first time, I heard broken glass inside the door. After that, the window wouldn't go back up.

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. It's a shop my insurance wants us to work with. I'll contact my insurance to see if they will advocate for me. The second repair estimate is $400, more than the first glass repair of $350.

Was there still broken glass inside the door?
It is possible the regulator could have been damaged when the glass was smashed. If the window was fully closed there is some binding pressure on the regulator. When the glass is suddenly broken all the binding pressure is released extremely fast. There may be enough kinetic energy to damage the regulator. Some of the regulator components are plastic which break when there is too much shock.

I'm sure you can feel my anger at this repair if you can call it that. Why not just give you a plastic bag and some duct tape!!!!
This is soooooo AFUed to leave this like that for you now you have a job you didn't need. It needs fixing all over again but by who? Do you trust this place that did this?
That's why I suggested get insurance involved to ban this joint from any recommended list or make them fix it or pay for it to be fixed right elsewhere.
Can't know if or how regulator is messed up. Many you really can't fool with too much before you get a whole new unit. I'll never know each and every model how each does it without just looking at them and do and will do this stuff much more for older vehicles and no longer insured for glass etc.
In this case it's not just the glass working but the mess and unknown door sealed from weather/rain properly. There's lot of stuff in there not intended to be soaked and have seen some hacks just tear off plastic you don't see to get at glass or whatever inside and not put it back on or made up a duplicate if situation requires - not for a car this new!
This is why I suggested maybe insurance would help you. Stop the payment to this shop and go elsewhere. IMO for leaving glass in door they just ate a bowl of shat to say this isn't their problem now!
If you wish ask for a manager or owner of place that fixed this improperly or seek other help as you've been screwed twice already worse by the fix then the thief IMO,

Just saw the new post while writing mine. Good luck with the proper fix. Yes - as said regulator can go with glass or abuse you may never know for sure. Let folks in person help you and don't stop till you know it's right,

But shouldn't they have checked if the window was working properly? And they stated they would clean out the broken glass which they obviously didn't.
I will contact our auto insurance.

That says it all. It would have failed on them and known more to do than they did BUT leaving pebbles of all side glass will do is break such that it doesn't make sharp daggers of glass was all thru and inside channels the original glass was in should be checked and all bits taken out - a vacuum or however done isn't your problem.
Glass is it's own frequently sent out or a glass shop comes to where you are or the car is for most of this stuff - not all.
So IMO is best I can do is it was a failed job totally. I can't know now nor can they if regulator was involved first or caused by leaving glass around? Would that be included or not still is between you and exact insurance you said you had. I'd say yes if known common and some not but since this job was botched so badly it's just my own opinion they are now at fault.
Had you been told the manner of how window was broken was so traumatic it would take more up to maybe a bent door for all I know you should have known or been informed it was seriously damaged inside - who knows - there's lots of things in a driver's door!
Glad you have insurance on it and hope they'll just take care of it and be done with this.
Check this now and after the next work: Just shake the door if it sounds like loose glass is still inside part open not slamming it or rough on it just shake it.
Now look for the outer seam where it meets at bottom. There are slots to let moisture/water out at lowest seams. They should be free of broken glass.
Guess you won't know for certain if a shield however it's done on this to keep water/moisture on outside away from inside of door panel and protection for any lighting, other electrical stuff and probably a speaker. All that will go to hell later if soaked unfortunately perhaps a year or more over this if all wrong.
That part of this disaster you can't see if it's all back together and working next time you see it without paying someone to take panel off and check the work which is why I already didn't trust this place that so flagrantly left the broken glass in the first place.
I can stop the ranting. It wasn't fair to you to get involved more than make the appointment and go get it all working and not know a dang thing about it.

you should be addressing these concerns with your insurance co. You should be using their knowledge to correct and get you squared away.
