I have a 2010 town and country with some michigan rust repair needed down low (bottom of door in spots and rockers. I am looking to 'touchup' and slowdown the rust.

What I am thinking of doing is, Making the repairs and then chosing a low body line and masking and applying
a 'bedliner' coating down both sides. Then hoping to paint (touchup can ?)to match. Also looking for techniques and prep needs etc as I am not sure of proper steps to reach my goal.

The thought is: the repair would look better for longer. Hopefully prevent future stone chips etc.

Not sure if this post belongs here or ? Please advise and give thoughts.

I think you have a lot of wishful thinking if you expect to stop or even slow down this rust.

You have to know that once it starts, there is no stopping it short of cutting every bit of it out and replacing the metal.

There are chemicals you can spray on it to slow it down a little but it will be back with a vengeance.

Ya - you can make it look better but MUST know it's superfluous rust ugly and worse where you don't see.

Have a pro check it for safety rust issues. If like HT said it's not 100% gone it comes back. Patch panels (not an oe item) may be readily available if safe - I mean that rockers and jacking points are not to be weak or it's real trouble.

What I do as a beater becomes a Winter car is also oil inside doors till is drip out on purpose drains. It helps but a mess if you drag clothes over that clean up what's over done.

Spot welded on parts are part of what hold the thing together.

Pay if you have to follow fuel and brake lines as well - some go into hiding in body some don't.

Time to slow it down was when rust free is gear oil (used fine) paint on the known areas and inject in hollow frame parts.

Rust stinks - live like that NOTHING WINS once started, it does,

Tom
