severe rust under car

[:(I am thinking about bying a 79 caddy coupe with 36000 original miles in great shape. Problem is it came from wisconsin so it has severe runt completely under the body, shocks rims breaks and possibly brake lines as wel to name a few of the infected areas. It sat a long time and to make it worse the salt added to the corrosion. Ive been told its fixable and there is no holes yet at least not visible but it is extremely bad. Is it worth fixing or is it junk and how can i tell the degree of the corrosion to be past fixing ,

Hell no, send it to the junkyard where it belongs. Yes, brake lines and sheet metal can be repaired but if you think it is going to stop there, you will be in for a shock. When you find the frame rotted too, it will all have been for nothing.

I had a guy tell me i could get a support frame welded on to support it and i could scrape the rust off sandblast and use rust sealer i think he said. Seems like alot of work

You can fix anything but rust fixes are usually so expensive you don't bother and it's a parts car depending on what, where items are involved,

Ok im sure im not ready to spend tons of money on tons of repairs and part replacing on this car , it really is just a parts car in this condition .and hey the enginee even at 36000 miles appears to look slighty rusted as well and aged . It sounds great but i doubt even that is worth droppi.g into another body

If the frame has rust damage, then it's not even legal to repair in most states.

This is tough to call without seeing it but sounds pretty bad. If the car has lots of assorted good parts then part it out. Some rust belt cars have excellent rubber parts that are pretty pricey - go look for parts for it and find out,

I feel your pain, as I live in WI too. I've seen vehicles from the 90's too far gone to save and when you get into this type of job you're looking at a frame-off restoration. The rotten frame makes it a dealbreaker. Someone might want to buy the motor and trans out of it to throw in a mud truck or something like that. But for what you would have to pay to fix this right it would be cheaper to drive down south or out west and haul one back that hadn't seen the salt. Rust is like cancer, if you don't get every bit of it out it won't stop. This sounds like a terminal patient to me.
Had a guy once need a new clutch on his 91 Chevy truck that he was going to use to haul wood. Thing was so rusted out that when I put it on the hoist to lift it the frame broke. Truck didn't get a clutch, it went to the crusher. Motor came out for something less rusted.
