04 malibu changing brakes Sign In

i have a 04 chevy malibu with a 2.2 engine with 85000 miles on it. I'm trying to change back brake pads on my car. i've tried using the old c clamp method to push the caliper piston back in but its not working? Is there a special tool that i need to get? when i do get the brakes back on would ii have to bleed the brakes 2? thank you so much for your help

No special tools needed. C clamp should do the trick. Try opening the bleeder screw while applying pressure with the c-clamp. If it still won't go in you may have a caliper problem. You should not need to bleed the brakes when finished. Be sure to pump the brake pedal a few times until you get a good pedal. Top off fluid and double check the pedal before driving. Good Luck

Jeff; Not sure, but some of those pistons screw in clock-wise while depressing. Not positive on the GMs?

Pic may not show and might be wrong tooCrazy

If that's the rear caliper I just Googled this one does screw back under some pressure to retract like ones that incorporate the parking brake within caliper. They make a neat little cube to turn piston for this....

Either by Lisle pn#28600 or KD Tools #3163. I made a 3/8th square on shaft of a "C" clamp that matches and works perfectly for these critters - most types so far anyway.....

Dunno for sure but if cable goes directly to caliper it's this type. If not there would be a mini drum brake for rear parking brake inside rotor.......

Hell no Jeff - Don't be sorry - I just checked what parts showed for the car and two places asked more questions then some others to get anywhere - there may be either type on this model??
