1976 Chevrolet P/U Rear Breaks Sign In

What is the recomended break lining thickness for rear drum breaks before replacement is advised. I took off the drums to inspect and to take good look at, the break liners on both sides looked to be 1/8 to 3/16 above the rivets.

If that's the lowest point, that's not much less than a brand new shoe.

Thankyou for the information one less thing. All I did was do a good through cleaning with an appropriate break cleaner solution.

Make sure the hardware is in good shape, the star adjusters are free, the wheel cylinders are not leaking or seized, you don't have axle seal leaks, and the brakes are adjusted. Also inspect the brake hoses to be sure they aren't cracked or damaged. If the brake fluid is old, wouldn't be a bad idea to flush the system out.

Howdy;

Apologize for not getting back to you sooner regarding your advice and thanks.
Everything you mentioned is always a possibility of what can be found when those drums are removed. But luckily nothing was found leaking wheel cylinders and axle seals were good once everything was cleaned gave a good look at except some surface corrosion on the steel lines looked good and flex lines looked fine as well. Fluid has been flushed with new break fluid.
