1995 Pontiac Grand am 4 cyl 2.3L 115,467 miles About 7,000 miles ago I had my rotors, pads, drums, and shoes replaced. In the last 2 or 3 months I've noticed my brakes becoming increasingly worse. There are 3 noticeable issues... When coming to a harder stop the dash shakes quite a lot. When coming to a regular stop it feels like my brakes are being pumped, like i,m continuously letting off the pedal slightly and pushing down again. Almost like ABS but not to that extent. Occasionally when I let off the brake pedal and before pushing onto the gas pedal I hear a loud popping noise from the rear of the vehicle as soon as I release the brake pedal. My tires were also becoming very worn down so I replaced them about a week ago thinking they may also be affecting my braking. With all 4 tires replaced my braking issues went away seemingly, until a few days later my car suddenly started experiencing the same issues again. I'm at a loss here because everything was replaced within the last 7,000 miles which were driven over the course of the last 13 months. Even if I were being really hard on my brakes (which I'm not) 7,000 miles should be far to soon for anything to need replaced again right?

You really should have gone back to where that all was done. There's still more to it than those parts. Calipers, wheel cylinders, flex hoses hardware and the parking brake set up to match new drums also. There's a chance of new but not true rotors or drums as well. Popping noise? IDK - they did it they should check but a worn backing plate for rear brakes can pop as shoes retract over a worn spot serviced, greased or replace the backing plate if worn enough. There's lots involved and at the age probably most of it needed? Why tires made it seem like they were better or no problem is unknown for sure. They would have removed wheels and just putting them back on if torqued correctly this time could matter if they were not? Can't totally know for sure all was done by another. Back to the first place is what I suggest you should have at first notice of anything not right about it. IMO for waiting you may share some responsibility if parts new then can't be reused now for the final fix - it's not done yet, T

Everything you are describing points to distorted/warped rotors. There is one common cause of this and that is extreme overheating followed by rapid cooling, generally pointing to a very aggressive driver overheating the brakes. Just hitting a puddle after that will instantly warp the rotors. The only other possible explanation would be a defect in the brakes causing them to not release entirely which will lead to overheating also. That would usually give other symptoms also. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
