My son has a 1999 Ford Ranger and he asked me to take it for a drive. I think the ABS is acting up, but it is doing other stuff. When driving it sometimes it feels like it shifts into neutral, the speedometer quits working at times and when stopping there is a clicking sound, which sometimes the brake pedal drops down for a few seconds and then goes back to normal. I almost forgot, it shifted hard a couple of times too.

They have a common problem with the speed sensor in the top of the rear differential. That could actually be the cause of all or those symptoms. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
