2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sign In

Hi,
In May, 2013 my garage mechanic said I needed brake seals. It cost me $766. When I brought my car to the same mechanic in November to have a routine oil change and tire rotation, he told me I needed my brake seals replaced! When I confronted him with my spread sheet showing he did the job in May, he was embarrassed. Now my question is, did he do it last May? How can I find out if my brake seals are OK? Who can I trust? I am a widow - 78 years old and know very little about auto repairs and I need to be able to TRUST a mechanic. Please help me. Thank you.

Not quite sure what you mean by your mechanic replacing the brake seals. Do you mean brake pads?

It's possible that the tech never cleaned up the left over mess when he did the job the first time or the shop could just be a bunch of thieves. I would definitely get a second opinion from another shop though.

Ellie - I don't like the sound of that or the price for what? Yes brake work can get up there. Not sure what these "seals" are and I also suggest getting a second opinion on what it needs if anything,

If thats on the rear end she could mean the axleshaft seals. A bunch of gear lube not cleaned up by the last guy in there would show on the backing plate and you would think the seals were out again.

$766? Not a chance even if that was the case. I'd get a second opinion.
