97 Civic brake calipers stumped

97 Civic brake calipers stumped

I have a 1997 honda civic LX dealing with front sliding calipers.
So what I thought was going to be a hour diy brake pad replacement has been going on for a little bit longer. I can't make the new pads fit. They are too thick to fit back over the rotor. I have gone to autozone and got no help and been reading all over the net for info but nothing on my problem quite. Piston is all the way In and definetely not my problem. Excuse me I know nothing of brakes really so im not sure how to describe whats going on. It seems the mounting bracket may slide in to compress the pads on the rotor but I can't get it to move. One side has a normal hex bolt where the bracket threads into the caliper to secure it and on the other side is some sort of bracket pivot not a bolt just a round metal looking thing with some kind of rubber nipple that I can't figure out what's its for. The side with the hex slides back and forth freely, while the pivot side does not. However the mounting braket still swings open and shut.
I have pictures but can't figure out how to upload them on here but here is a link to a picture of a caliper that looks very similiar to mine. The "bracket pivot thing" im talking about can be seen on the 2 bottom angles and on the right side of the caliper.

The pivot side of the caliper should allow you to slide the bracket from the caliper. The pivot is nothing more than a pin that slides into the bracket. It may be frozen from corrosion. Might have to use some penetrating oil and work the bracket back and forth to get the pin to slide out.
What brand of pads do you have? If there is a part number on the box, what is it?

Your slide is frozen. Put a torch to the housing and get it to work loose. Remove the holding assembly and clean the pin with a wire wheel. Clean out the bore with a round file. Lube the pin with grease suited for higher temps and reinstall.

Ok i gotcha. Would it be ok to hammer the slide out? Or is that thing what I should actually pull on? The one in the picture doesn't have a little rubber thing at the end like mine

Hammer might break the housing. You don't need a cutting torch, just a propane torch might do it. Cheap little item at any hardware store. But work it back and forth before you resort to the hammer or you will likely need some new calipers.
