Bleeding brakes issue

Greeting
I recently worked on my 2016 2.0 4cyl na Mitsubishi lancer. We wanted to do generic thinks like paint the calipers and change my rims. Upon removing the calipers we did understand that we had to bleed the brakes. Using 3 dot brake fluid we followed a basic online guide and used the two person system. My mate bled the brakes and filled up the cylinder while i pumped and held down the brake. After going through each brake twice and following the furthest away from master rule, i had no resistance when braking and during testing on the hill we were on i omly had my handbrake (im backyard not road) ive only just had the issue today. One person suspected that we did it while the car was on and that might have been the issue. The car only has <25k on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

When you removed the calipers did you let the master cylinder reservoir go dry? Still sounds like you got air in the system. The vehicle does not need to be running to bleed the brake system.

Are you sure you put the calipers back on the same wheel they came off of?

Yea. When we took off the caliper we let the fluid drain out. Do we need to flush/bleed the fluid more?

Im pretty sure. We kept each set of calipers separate in left and right however the painting might have mixed them up. Could that effect the brake fluid supply?

Look at the calipers and see if the bleeder is above or below the brake line.
