Ok, looking for guidance here. 24 hours ago I Just replaced front rotors and brake pads.cleaned rotors with brake cleaner. Lubed all typical points(at least what I researched), Checked all bolts closely and snugged everything up well (I can always double check). Shims/Clips snapped in, didn’t see any movement. When I initially bedded them in I smelled odd smell but I believe that was remaining rotor rust resistant from factory. Brake power seems ok, but loud and clear clicking coming from front passenger. Mostly at low speeds, maybe more when wheel is turned right. Clearly a clicking, no other noises or smells. Any ideas of recommended 1/2/3/4 steps to diagnose and resolve? I checked all bolt tightness before putting tires on. Don’t want let this discourage me from trying to forward, kinda of annoying though after all the work! thx gang. -Lee

Check to make sure Backing plate isn't making contact with rotor Anti rattle clips are installed correctly in the rear of the pads Make sure nothing is protruding from the caliper and contacting the inside of the wheel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I’ll check the backing plate for sure. Also, I didn’t grease or lube the shims/clips as I read it’s not actually recommended. Depends who you ask. I do have (1) black clip per outside rotor and I didn’t use those. I actually don’t know how to place them. The inner pads have their own already installed silver squealer clip. But I did get (2) black clips and don’t know where they go.

Then that is your problem. The clips stop the pads from rattling in the frame. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Uh I was afraid of that. They didn’t look that simple of a placement or like it just clips on both sides of the shim’s largest opening. I’m sure it’s easy, I’ll have to check it again. They didn’t look even, I’m not sure how to clip them on.

Just seat them all the way into the channel. The pads hold them in.

You have to use that hardware. Some brake pads have a seam you need to grind off or don't fit well or at all. Odor mentioned right away is new products, grease on friction surfaces should go away in a few stops. Re: use of grease? Use it as a smear AFTER you scrape down any rust where hardware is corroded between it and metal or pads may not fit. If way too tight putting back together it's the pads or rust that wasn't scraped off. Use real high temp brake greases made to be waterproof and tolerate very high heat both sold as such #1 is that it's rubber friendly too, T
