Hello! I have a

2002 KIA OPTIMA with a 2.7L

I began with having issues with my back lights staying on. So that it would not run down my battery, I removed a power fuse (for my seats, trunk and gas cap).

I was told that I either needed to replace my Brake Light Switch or needed some small piece to apply to the Brake Light Switch to trigger the lights to come on when I pressed on the paddle. I purchased a few different pieces that I was told should work in both rubber and plastic, as well a new Brake Light Switch - which was found to be unsuccessful. It was then stated that I may have an electrical issue, but when I took the car to the Kia dealership they stated that they could not find the source of the problem either and they would have to start taking my car apart in order to come to a possible conclusion (which was expensive).

All my fuses have been checked on both panel and I replaced the switch and all of them are good.

Can you please shed some light on what may be the cause/issue?

The only way you are going to find out is someone is going to have to physically test the system to determine where they are getting their power from. I still think the issue is going to be related to the switch.

I'll second that. There are only so many things always empowered with car totally off. Brake lights are one. Unless this is crossed up somehow to a map light, trunk light (wild low chance) I can't think of anything but at the switch.

No pun but if this was actively staying on at a dealer I'm shocked they quit so easily. If catching power enough the unplugged switch would show it! If so I'd just pull fuses on known empowered things till it went out and chase it from there. Doubt that - it's at the switch somehow............

They couldn't determine why the brake lights were staying on? That's really sad.
