Brake drums - advice needed!

Hi We have a 95 vauxhall astra 1.4 gls, and the brakes went at the weekend. It has had new brake pads put on since but we've been told it also needs new drums (couldn't get those done at the same time as we were away for the weekend and had to bring car back yesterday). Can anyone tell me exactly what drums I should buy for this model? I know that if I took it to a garage they would order for me, but someone we know has offered to do it for free if we order the parts. Thanks for your help!

Don't know the car as it may not be sold to the US but no matter. Many cars use disc brakes for front and drum for rear. It's a style of brake not just one part. If it needs the drums then it would likely need a brake job and other parts as needed upon inspection - not just the drums themselves. Any parts place can sell you the likely parts. They may ask for drum size or the date of production among some things that could make them different from others. For a common rear, drum brake job which could include...... Shoes Spring kit (hardware kit) Wheel cylinders Adjustment mechanism as needed Parking brake parts as needed..... More perhaps?? T

Great, thanks for your help. At the weekend it had new brake pads and shoes but I'm not sure if it was front or rear. Apparently we only need to replace rear drums as everything else has been done (the other bits were urgent for us to travel home safely, whereas the drums are on their way out, and need replacing quite soon but not as urgently as the rest). So it's just the drums which need doing, thankfully. Cheers Becky

Ok: The drums may have been worn over size, rusted - whatever. Chances are there's only one size used on this vehicle. Just ask for them at the parts supplier you choose. If they ask the size you may need to take a wheel off and look - most are marked. To replace these with the other items now new the shoes will need to be adjusted for the new smaller inside diameter of the new drums which should be easy for someone who is used to doing brake work, T
