Just had brakes service...

Hello, this is my first post and I need some help. I had just taken my car to JustBrakes. After installing new break pads front/rear and rotors my car shakes pretty violently while braking from around 30mph. I decided to take my car to another shop and have them double check the work JustBrakes did. Supposedly they replaced the calipers, rotors and pads. They also did a brake system power flush as well. Any one know why the brakes would cause my car.to shake like that? I'm guessing they didn't bed the pads properly. Any ideas? Thanks all.

Why didn't you go back with that complaint? IDK, rotors not good out of box, grease maybe got on new rotors, hub where rotor mates may be uneven from rust or something? Go back - you just had it done, T

Thanks for the reply. When I originally took my car there on Monday, they said I needed new rotors because the old ones had been machined too many times and was under specifications. They told me nothing was wrong with the old rotors other than they were wearing thin. A couple of days later I noticed the shuddering while stopping and then thats when I brought my car back to them for the second time. They installed the rotors and calipers today, but the problem persists.. I should have included that in my original post. Sorry.

If it's suddenly shaking violently, then something is installed wrong and you need to get it back to them right away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

OK. Well. The mechanic came in to tell me the rear hardware was completely missing. Amazing! Trust a company to do a brake job because a company like JustBrakes all they do IS brakes and they can't even do that properly.

I totally understand needing new rotors - that part is right. What's the bull with the hardware missing in the back - that's not credible unless someone is taking brakes apart and stealing it - NOT. This seems like a problem not just because it's a chain store but the tech(s) may just not have a clue? Move up the food chain with them if need be and I hate to blame shops and techs but the own this IMO, T

Yup. Had my car towed back to the JustBrakes. I'm watching the mechanic as he works. Called their corporate office and filed a complaint. Apparently the mechanic that (same guy) worked my car Monday and today was fired just now. The customer relations department will be issuing me a refund, needless to say.

Already said. I hate to blame a place or chain but stuff happens and can anywhere. If more often at chain places it's still their fault for what went wrong. I think now you'll get some satisfaction and your call on going back there or somewhere else. Seriously - if I was stuck way away from getting towed home I'd be lost as to where to go and probably ask my motor club who would warrant work if failed upon return. Trust me as a mechanic it can still happen by surprise to have a problem. I carry quite a bit of stuff to get out of it on my own or at least a safe limp mode to get somewhere, Tom

The Jiffy Lube of brakes...that is what we call them. I am sure they are cracking the whips on those brake techs trying to get them to hurry up and get the cars out. They focus on speed and forget about quality. Their prices are ridiculous. $100 for a 4 wheel brake job? They must be using some crappy pads. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

There was a total super cheap Chinese line once so bad pulled a rotor out and still make out a bolt as the recycling process didn't fully melt down the used steel right - OMG and it was just a sh*t box car but not good enough for even that. The chains had accounts at the same store that would sell mostly to the trade and those chains did buy the junk stuff. I think MA made it illegal at least for pads to sell less than OE or better quality and only the exact friction rating, T

So after trouble shooting the issue of the violent trembling and shaking when braking from 30-20mph, turns out while the rear hardware was missing, this allowed the rear brakes to expand and ride the drum, causing the drum to then warp. Ohh man. All the issues are fixed but, my god! This ate my entire day up. Literally my entire day, from 7:30 am till 5 pm I was dealing with this. I should charge them for their time. How ridiculous. Anyways, thanks for the help guys.

What a horror show! How the heck hardware in a drum is plain missing is messed up. Broken and shoes can't stay in place, all fricked up and strange wear or who knows but is so obvious if you look and parts or what's left of hardware will still dump out of the drum. Did that just break on it's own or who knows after this mess? What's worse is that failure is near certain to render you without effective braking at all! Guess it's worth a day to prevent that. Sorry it took you all day. Try some help line that I dare say most of us have been thru then get dropped when almost done - arrrrr Hope this saga is over for you now, Tom

Yes, finally the horror show is over. I've always had problems with mechanics and cars. I've also had very very good and honest mechanics as well. Unfortunately, we seem to always remember the bad experiences over the good ones. Go figure. But, its good to remember the bad so we can prevent ourselves from a repeat in the future of the same mistakes.

Quote ">>I've always had problems with mechanics and cars.<<" Try to find both a shop and get to meet the tech and ask for that person. It isn't right but happens in assorted trades. I have the luck with domestic work of learning that it was done wrong AFTER they've left and are paid - stuff just happens even when you aren't strangling people for low price! While at the topic. I'd like to thank the carpenter who redid my front door pillars with fake wood never to need paint and use nails that already are streaming rust stains on the work when ONE dollar would get ones that don't! Stuff happens and idiots are abundant, T

I always had a problem with CSI. If you got a score above your zone, you got a bonus. Of course when you got everyone's comebacks or had one that was circulating through the shop like a two bit whore, it was hard to make a good score. I remember I got a bad score from a customer and all I did was change a battery. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Yeah thats tough.... I had one service director that used to say that GM had the surveys written/worded in such a way that when the customer took the survey ,we would take the hit. A lot of times, most of the time, the customer is pissed about/at the vehicle ,so when they take the survey they slam everyone. We were all instructed to show the customer the proper way to answer the survey and direct them to the tiny little spot on the back with the 2 lines that was there for comments/complaints about the vehicle. We would tell them,if your pissed at the car, voice it here...if we did all we could, this is our report card, answer it this way Believe it or not, worked like a charm.
