Matrix 2005 noisy brakes Sign In

Hi,

I just change brake disk and brake pads (front) of my 2005 Matrix. I have bought first quality brake parts (it is not race car brake but correct quality). I have cleaned and lubricate pins and pads holder. Brakes are working great but are very noisy mostly when brake are not applied. It is like brake pads stay stuck on the disk. Is it necessary to clean something on caliper side all will return at initial place?

Thank you

What did you do with the rotors?

If you did nothing to the rotors all bets off for noise and proper performance. As for quality pads it's not always the price but what you are looking for - long life, quiet, no brake dust and so on.

If rotors not machined or replaced you can easily pick up a rust bit from the outer ring of usual rust and it can embed in the pads.

Not my job but folks just toss in pads alone all the time - we know that. If so you are on your own for problems,

I have changed brake pad and rotor. All it is new. Possibly interesting thing is that my rotors have grooves on the surface probably for heat dissipation

The old ones or the new ones?

If you mean there's an intentional "V" type cut I haven't seen that since the 60s! It was done TMK only by GM and I just think it was there to help with pads from rattling as they would get a matching groove rather quickly.

Long done with this stuff but mess with my own still. I am disgusted with parts quality in general. Stuff I replaced perhaps 8-10 years ago looks better than some of the same crap now doing it again as maintenance.

You just might have lousy pads. I said MIGHT! It has happened to me that some would just not shut up - new everything. Rotors always cleaned with BraKleen (brand name) to wash away any possible greases or anything used to keep them from rusting before they even sell them. Now the gooey crap they used to used isn't done anymore they shrink wrap most things air tight. I still clean them - just the friction surfaces. Shouldn't really need to go to extremes like that but do and will continue to.

You may need to go back and take it apart and really inspect the parts again now with some use if they are showing anything odd.

They sell products to put on the back side of pads to make them quiet but doesn't really work. Vehicles that had a chronic noise issue near always came with stuff to use or many use a stick on backing plate no doubt for noise issues.

You know - the noise issues were back when problems not much on anything near recent like over 25 years since I've really done battle with noisy disc brakes and ones that just wouldn't cooperate new different brand pads fixed it.

Hey, none of us are right there if something that might be obvious is wrong so we really are just sharing what happens or could most often with things like this,

T
