Need ABS help please! Sign In

I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata GLS, 2.7 V6 engine.

When I look in the owner's manual, it talks about the car's ABS system and whatnot, however there's absolutely no ABS light that's ever come on when I start the car. All the other lights come on, and upon really close inspection, I can see that there actually is an ABS light section on the side, but it's never once come on. Does that mean my car doesn't actually have ABS? Or that there might be something wrong with it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Bulbs usually come on while cranking and with ignition on, engine off as a bulb check then all warning lights go out. Seems you aren't sure it's really on or not?

Bulbs may not be in correct positions somehow if dash worked on? It's still a warning and if just ABS and brakes feel fine get code readings for it specifically to see what it shows and post the #s. YOU DO HAVE 4 WHEEL ABS - about everything that model year does.

BTW - Know that if in fact light is on the default is regular braking so don't count on any ABS just normal brakes as if it's not needed,

The bulb for it doesn't come on at all when I turn the ignition, all the other ones do though. (emergency brake, air bags, seat belt, check engine, etc). Then they all go out after a second as usual, but the ABS doesn't do anything. As far as I know, the dash has never been worked on. We're the second owner of it and have had it for about 3 years now.

It's my first year winter driving (it's my husband's car), and I just need to know how to properly brake, (pump the brakes or don't). I know if I have ABS, I'm not supposed to pump the brakes to stop. It's just I don't actually know if it has ABS. Unimpressed

Again - bulbs come on to check if they work and go off normally. Ones that come on mean something. YOU have ABS which controls a wheel from locking up in a skid and when the "amber" or "yellow" warning for ABS (usually one of those colors) stays on you just have brakes like a car that doesn't have that feature - normally if things are fine otherwise.

Pumping brakes for stopping is time by time, situation by situation but not for working ABS set ups confuses it.

IDK - If you have a safe place and unsure if that's a warning or not with a slippery side of vacant lot or off public road just see if it kicks in just carefully if you are up to that.

Better is get code readings for ABS as I think it's in default now if all other things about brakes are fine it should be safe to drive like cars that didn't have it.

Many things can cause it to light up a warning. A sensor, dirt on a sensor wires to a sensor at each wheel on up to some other issue as it is involved.

If light is lit and no codes are found it needs a higher end code reading. Post those #s and I/we can suggest from there. If you are uncertain or uncomfortable driving this at all then don't - that simple,

Again - All cars and most even HD trucks sold to the US, Canada and many other places will have ABS as a mandatory feature by model year 2005.........

The car may not be equipped with ABS or it could have a problem that somebody couldn't fix and they decided to just remove the bulb for the warning light.

The easiest way to find out is to look at the back of the front wheels wheels and look for a wire going to the area for a speed sensor.
