99 Monte Carlo

I've got a 99 Monte Carlo, I just replaced a rear strut on it...which wasn't too much of an issue, except for me screwing something up along the way. I broke a brake line...in an area I'm not too familiar with. Therefore I need a little guidance on the next step. Here's a pic that explains where I broke it:

http://s27.postimg.org/c456h0our/mc_brake.jpg

That's not my actual car, I don't have a pic of that, so it might be a year or two off (mine is 99), but it does accurately show the parts in question.

Basically, I know it's all brake lines...but the specific name of that specific one/area I do not know...which makes it hard to research what to do about it.

What part names exactly need to be replaced, and what do I need to go about doing to replace them? Or if I'm just asking the wrong question altogether...feel free to inform me of what I should be asking! Thanks.

They don't really sell pre-bent brake lines. You have to make them yourself and flare the ends after putting the fittings on. Your best bet is to remove the line entirely and bring it to a shop and ask them to make one like it.

Even if it needs to get bent to the right shape, I still need a primer in exactly what I'm doing here, like how do I get in to get that bit of line out, what do I have to do when replacing it, how do I get it sealed up when putting it together, etc.

Even if I did exactly what you say...like I said, I'm unfamiliar with this particular system...I need some info on how one would do that, such as: how would one remove that particular line? How do those fittings go together to seal right for when I'm putting in the new one, what do I need to be buying (I'm assuming it'll take more than just the length of tube, bent correctly or not), what size tubing should I be ordering that goes there etc.

Judging by the amount of experience you seem to have, my recommendation is to have toe car towed to the shop. Brakes are way too important to go at blindly.

I have no intention of doing anything blindly, that's the point of asking for info, learning, and doing research. Is it not?

Apparently that line is rusted and it's going to take some technique and finess to get it apart without breaking it as you already found out. You have no idea what the part even is, never mind knowing how to safely repair the brakes. This needs to go to a professional. This is brakes we're talking about, not the window rolling up and down.

Apparently what line is rusted? Why are you saying that? There's nothing rusted about it.

That just looks worse for you. I would have expected it to break if the nut was rusted onto the line. If it wasn't rusted, how did you break it off?

I forgot to take a bolt off as I was taking out the old strut, something called a mistake. It happens, and I'm sure you've made mistakes too.

If someone on here would do something helpful, like say "that fitting is X type of fitting", "that line is X size line", "that fitting takes X type of flaring", or any other bits of info they might think helpful (the sort of things that would give me little tidbits to start with for my researching the specific issue), it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

3/16 line, likely bubble flare and metric fittings.

JimboJim - HammerTime is right. This should just go out on a tow if you don't get it but if you must by the picture you provided if it shows directly here below....

^^^^ Was there anyway,
You would put a six point socket on the flare nut to remove it if broken off there now. Then go to a parts store and match it up to length plus with a new one longer than whole line but with both ends. New line will be straight. Other end may use a different flare nut so re-use that one on new one and make up the bends and flares like the original.

Go to a brick and motor parts store and see all the line and bending tools, tubing cutter and flare nut wrenches.

Follow the removed line and its holding devices along its route and install being careful not to tighten flares until you are sure they fit the thread properly into the ends.

As said, take some "finesse" to do this but actually quite common to rust more than trauma from breaking them.

Then you must know that bleeders work and the procedure for this car and be done with this.

Taking this out with just the questions you asked suggest you shouldn't do this first time alone with BRAKES so have a qualified helper or send it out. Messing it all up, crossing up threads or if bleeders give you a hard time you'll be stuck again and again. If in bending new line you manage to kink it you'll be starting over.

This is routine for most shops and are ready or should be if in snowballs into more than just the line,

T
