RF brake binding up Sign In

2006 toyota corolla le
Auto, 98k miles, 1.8 liter
Front disc, rear drum, no ABS, no TC

Couple weeks ago i let my brakes go further than i should have. Lost a brake pad. Replaced both front rotors, pads, and calipers as the front right side was damaged. About a week later i started to feel my front right brake start to grab after 10 or 15 minutes of driving. The time it take seems to be dependent on how often and hard i apply the brakes. The problem goes away if i let the car sit for 20 to 30 minutes. I talked to my brother who is a mechanic and we replaced the rubber line on that side and it still started to grab. We then brought the caliper back and got a replacement. The worker tried to press the piston in with his hand and deemed it to be seized up and gave us one free of charge. We put the new one on and it still grabs. We bled the brakes every time. There's enough fluid. We are running out of ideas. Would a master cylinder cause one caliper to bind to the point of fully engaged and not release?

On the right front side we replaced the caliper twice, rotor, pads, rubber brake hose. Whats left? Is there a proportioning valve in non abs cars? The master cylinder? Metal brake line? Two bad calipers from the same place? Please help meeeee

You shouldn't be replacing brake components on only one side of the car. They should always be replaced in pairs.

I couldve probably worded that better, but we did replace everything in pairs except the rubber line. We only replaced the rubber line on the side that we were having issues with which ended up,not being the problem

Are they simply grabbing when applied or are they remaining applied when the brakes are released?

Clarifying, im not currently driving it because i dont feel like having my brakes fail and i kill someone. I did drive it enough to see what the symptoms were though. Normally i was able to drive for several minutes perfectly fine. Then i could start feeling the pads rubbing and the more stops i made the harder they would rub. Eventually it would get to the point of me having the floor it just to move the car over a few feet to the curb. Let it sit for 20 minutes and the problem disappears until i start driving again.

OK, that 20 minutes is the period you have to do some testing. Jack up the car to get that wheel off the ground.

Now have a helper stay at the wheel to tell you if it suddenly gets free while you crack open the lines at the master cylinder. If that releases the wheel, the master is bad. If that doesn't release the wheel, then go to the wheel and crack open the bleeder.

If that releases the wheel, the problem is the rubber line or possibly the ABS. If not, it will be a mechanical issue at that wheel.

A note and quote from top post ">>I talked to my brother who is a mechanic and we replaced the rubber line on that side and it still started to grab.<<"

Replace both not just one. By your description the one that drags with some use is the one that works with the other hose blocked and possibly brake so hot it wont grab so the good one does.

Any of this as Hammer Time said if you do something to ONE side for brakes you do the same to the other including brake hoses. They can fail in assorted ways locking in pressure or not even to allow pressure in.

I'm not so sure caliper was frozen - many wouldn't work in you hands or if piston allowed out too far you may have ruined it?
