Stripped screws attaching rotor to.. housing(?)

Hey guys, I'm changing the brakes and rotors on a 2006 Kia Spectra. The rotors appear to have 2 phillips screws holding the rotor to whatever the rotor attaches to (I'm not really a car person). The screws are completely stripped, and I'm really at a loss as to how to get them out. Local auto parts store guy said to drill the head out. I don't have a drill, borrowing one won't be very easy but if this is the only way then I will try it. I started out using Phillips screw driver that fit pretty well, the hole in the screw gave way very easily with no chance of withstanding the required amount of torque. After it was apparent that a Phillips would not suffice, and the hole was getting pretty stripped, I used a flat head and a hammer to drive it in. I broke 2 flat head attachments from my auto repair kit, and when I used a stronger flat head it would continually just make the hole bigger. As a side note, the car isn't plated or insured at this point, it's sitting in my garage rusting so I can't drive it anywhere to have it done for me, unless I have it towed. I would like to avoid towing costs and avoid paying someone else to do this for me. Here's a couple pictures to help illustrate my dilemma. I put them in a link, as putting the images directly into this post they were way oversized. http://minus.com/m6DHQJ7ACwfXP

You did a number on that screw. The tool to use on those is an impact driver, but that is a little too late. A small chisel with hammer should be able to pop that loose. You want to angle the chisel so it causes the screw to rotate counter clock wise when you tap on it with the hammer. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

The thing was like melted butter the first time I tried to unscrew it. I will head to home depot tomorrow and pick up a chisel and give it a try, thanks for the suggestion. Should I be worried about replacing these screws after I get them out?

As DS said IMPACT DRIVER! You don't own a drill! Yes get them out and put new ones back. I dare say they are there to make a tight fit rotor to hub both to help keep rotor true as they can corrode and be off just removing the wheel and for assembly so they don't fall off while being assembled. Most of that type are a very tight fit center hole of rotor to hub and snug it in place for assembly. They can be a pest anyway now a lot more so, T
