Can't find right 2008 Mercury Mounaineer front caliper guide pin boot Sign In

Have a 2008 Mercury Mounaineer AWD. Need to replace one of the front caliper guide pin boots. Another of the original boots is shown in an attached photo. Unfortunately, what every aftermarket source (and a Ford dealer's online catalog) sells is shown in the second photo. The available replacement lacks a rubber flange which is needed to secure it in the guide pin bore in the caliper attachment bracket. I've also checked under Explorer parts. Do I have a non-standard caliper for the model? Where can I look to find the correct part?

As Tom points out, those kits are readily available everywhere. Just go to any parts store and ask for a caliper kit for that vehicle.

Looks like you have the boot on upside down on the guide pin....

Right Sidom, I didn't notice that.

That rubber has to go into the slide frame before the pin does.

Of course what catches my eye is the rust. That appears pretty trashed to me if it was on wrong (hard to really tell for sure) fine but too late probably.

OP - Take a hard look at the pads on both sides of this thing. Mark left and right so you could put them back and see if they are just about exactly as worn as the respective other side. If not dump the whole caliper. Think it comes also more bucks fully loaded would be called when I looked it up I think showed the bar is a separate rebuild item. This is 9-10 to close to 11 years old that stuff should go by then IMO. That and the flex hose AYOR if you don't do that too. That's what I meant do it up all the stuff new, rotors, pads and all. They would have to somehow be more exceptional than I think or still original and about had it.

Have fun bleeding it out the pads only tossing game is probably over a long time ago,

We were referring to the other picture.

I see that but can't post that one direct for some reason. The pocks of rust stopped me cold boots or not. OP why were you there at all and is it apart? That is definitely backwards I don't see a tear or water evidence on the pin in second pic. Is that your pic or from two sources while hunting around? Matters of course.
Point blank - I don't like that rust on brakes. Check pads if on long they'll separate from the backing plates you need to see it there's evidence of that or 1,2,3 surprise pump a few times without any brakes and metal to metal all at once these will do that lots faster if cheaping out on the parts especially,

I posted it directly but it was way too large so I removed it.

The OP hasn't been back so there is no point in discussing it any further.

Should have guessed it would be something dumb like that. Thanks for spotting that.

Both my photos. Replacing pads and rotors. Looks like I would have to borrow a special-purpose instrument to bleed the ABS. May consider replacing the base plate later when resources allow.

This is not something that should be done in stages. It should be all done at once. If you can't afford to fix the brakes right, then just park it and find another way to get around.
