I just got a 2000 Ford Expedition eddie bauer package. I bought it before driving it and it has one issue and I finally found what it is(kind of), but now I have no idea how to fix it. The expedition has been making a raddleing sound that has been shaking the car about 5 seconds after startup but only lasts for about 20 seonds max. I thought it might be the brakes, so I jacked the truck up and took the right side front tire off since that is the side the shaking was strongest on. The brakes looked fine, so i put the tire back on and set the truck down and the noise started again. So I popped the hood and found the part that was making all the noise and shaking, but I dont know what it is or why it is. here are some pics of the part that was shaking. Does anybody have any idea how to solve this???

Does the truck have air ride? That looks like an air compressor for air ride. Maybe the mounts an it are weak or the air ride has a small hole in the system and it is trying to pump it back up. Just a guess.

That does look the the little compressor for air ride. The 20 seconds thing might be normal to some degree if it's parked at an angle it may want to adjust for that and then just correct it later. Can this be heard while driving at all or inside with windows closed?

IT does have an air ride and it is a compressor. It only makes this noise after it has been setting for awhile and it only last for maybe 10sec max. I left it setting for afew hours and got back in to run an errand. It made the noise, but I got to my destination and was there for 30min and came back out to drive home and it was fine. I am guessing it has a leak??? How can this be found/corrected??? Can I do this myself or will I need to take it someplace and how much does something like this cost if so???

In your first post you said it's shaking the vehicle. That part is excessive. As way2old said, check the rubber mounts of the pump itself. Is is too close to something and touching?

Again - It might be normal. Air ride is constantly monitoring the level of the vehicle but only makes adjustments after certain criteria is met so that's it's not adjusting for each bump in the road. It would if parked and slightly different angle simply is adjusting as weight has shifted.

It could be leaking. Look right at the air springs or strut/shocks for age cracks and if you can spray soapy water on any lines and the rubber "bags" that you can see.

Cost of the components vary if anything is needed at all,

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. I took the compressor out yesterday and tightened everything and stuck it back in and tightened to the frame and it does not shake very much at all now and it sounds pretty much normal I guess. Thanks everyone!
