1998 Lumina front end banging Sign In

1998 Chevrolet Lumina sedan
3.1 Litre, 181000 kilometers

I was driving home from work today, at about 65 km/h. There was a sudden front end banging/vibration. I slowed and pulled over, it felt like the front wheel was going to fall off. I shook the wheels, felt good. I started to go again, it sounded worse, I didn't go over 60 km/h, and it doesn't appear to be there under acceleration, but bangs at what I would say is the same frequency as the rpm of the wheels. It is very loud. Could it be a CV joint. The transmission feels fine, and as I say it doesn't feel bad under acceleration.

What do you think?

The C/V is not real likely unless it's just not bolted in tight and I doubt that. there are a number of other possibilities like brake anchor bolts falling out, bad hub bearing or other brake issues but it needs to be inspected ASAP.

EeeK! As HT said get that checked out ASAP! Hey - we are good at "WEB" auto issues but some things just can't wait. Get help as needed,
